If you have fixed JMP 18.2 bugs that should be documented in the Release Notes, please set the Release Notes Affected field to Yes or Unsure (if you’d like the doc team to review the request).
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for October 18, 2024!
Just a reminder that at the end of next week (10/25/24), we will be freezing JMP 19 EA4. Please update your feature pages by Monday 10/28 and have any videos to Mia Stephens by end of the day Tuesday 10/29. I noticed that product management recently sent an email to our JMP 19 early adopters encouraging them to check out the JMP Marketplace. It’s been having a bit of a soft launch in preparation for being highlighted next week at JMP Discovery Summit in Cary.
Many JMP team members have been preparing to present and meet with customers at next week’s conference. Thanks to Mia for creating this page to capture Discovery notes. I’m especially looking forward to seeing customer presentations and talking to people at my poster about how their crash data (and helpful descriptions of what they were doing) can assist us in solving mystery cases!
After my comment about early voting data this morning, JMP Live developer Michael Goff shared this cool JMP Live dashboard that he created to capture public data about early voting sites in Wake County! He says, “I wrote a python refresh script in JMP Live to fetch the Wake Country election data from the board of elections website and create a data table of voting demographics. It should update daily as early voting goes on.” Here’s a peek at the reports he’s published, many with filters so you can explore data by early voting location:

Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash cases with crashes selected!

JMP Development Updates
Interactive HTML
- John Powell: Updated the marker tooltip for the Logistic platform to display the Y value rather than the position of the point on the left side scale(JMPHTML-14161). Updated bubble plot to redraw bubbles if a change to the X or Y Aggregation Option requires updating the scale (JMPHTML-14170). Working on supporting Force Labels for the marker segment(JMPHTML-13712). Created an issue for Force Labels Axis setting getting lost when Redoing Analysis or saving a script (JMP-23457). Meetings to discuss the use of story points.

- Mike Stickles: Almost completed work on JMPHTML-1407 (Legend setting on size role does not work on HTML5); doing some final cleanup and testing before pushing it up for review. Incidentally fixed JMPHTML-13684 (Max items in legend is ignored) and apparently also fixed JMPHTML-13866 (Legend layout differs with wrap = 2) while working on it, those fixes will be part of the changes for 1407. These changes only include the primary size role – separate markers for each size. Size roles displayed in the legend using nested markers will be made a separate JIRA ticket; currently these are displayed using the old double-semicircle icon.
- Praveena: Worked on matching alphanumeric sorting as per JMP (JMPHTML-14066). Reached out to Audrey and Josh regarding test plan for UI changes. Met with Shannon Leslie and John Powell to discuss Story pointing and other agile process.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (loads of fruitful meetings, visual improvements to downloaded warning history and to warning email). Whitebox testing.
- Michael Goff: Participated in whitebox testing day for JMP Live and continuing to work on control chart triage client work.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: More triage of New Data table, tags, and worked some on changes developer made for Tabulate; had a corrupt table issue from Tech Support that Evan brilliantly helped me/them with and we got the repaired table handed back to the user – turned out to be a known issue with table variables – but the user was sort of abusing JSL to make Table Vars. Sat in on a dry run of a DS paper for next week, involving Workflow builder and helped them out – since they had an import issue – which ended up being a change to the import wizard that was intentional. Next week – Discovery and working some on a presentation I will do in one of the roadmap rooms.
- Nick H: Working on fixing a bug where maintenance branches are not correctly marking known issues due to jiraIssuesStatus.jmp not being updated nightly for those branches. Fixed a bug with the failure file link opening the console log incorrectly that was introduced after pushing my recent changes preparing for our new retention policy.Working on finishing up 19.0 padding/margin verifications while continuing to clean up new and old failing unit tests in our nightly runs. Also helping Mandy with some data table verifications.

Hosting and Interfaces
- Paul Nelson:
- Working for the past couple of weeks on R Integration via Python and R using rpy2. Started with figuring out how to make the R connection via just Python scripts and creating Python functions that were analogous to the original JSL R interface. Next was an attempt replace the JSL entry points with a JSL user defined functions calling through to the Python functions. Limitations of user defined functions meant such a solution would break the majority of existing JSL R scripts.
- This week, restoring the R integration entry points within JMP in C++, but making the calls via Python and rpy2 instead of connecting via SAS Tk. JMP-23469. Still some work to go but most of the functionality is back in place.
Note from Shannon
Thanks to Mike Stickles for sharing this meme! He says his family circulated it on their group chat during the CrowdStrike debacle. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Hope you all have a great weekend!
