Opening plenary, Discovery Expo, JMP Lab, and paper presentations
Discomfort, often seen as a hindrance, can actually be a valuable teacher. At the opening plenary, Research and Development Director Julian Parris (@julian) shared analogies of stoicism and frustration, comparing real life to the difficulties we encounter with our data analyses.

In the realm of data analysis and visualization, JMP offers a comprehensive ecosystem designed to help users navigate and overcome those frustrations. With its powerful tools and intuitive interface, JMP can tackle complex challenges efficiently and effectively.
JSL, the scripting language within JMP, has undergone significant evolution since its inception in JMP 4. JMP Found and Chair John Sall (@John_Sall) explained that, over the years, JSL has gained the ability to handle images in data tables, utilize pattern operators, create 3D graphics, and leverage the JSL Script Editor, Scripting Index add-ins, file exchange, and much more. The integration of Python in JMP 18 further expanded JSL's capabilities, enabling users to create interactive custom objects and streamline their workflows.

Sall's preview of JMP 19 introduced Style Sheets, a new feature that allows users to customize the appearance of their JMP projects.
JMP's versatility extends beyond its core functionalities. Parris demonstrated how JMP can be used to bring in data from various sources, while Senior Research Statistician Developer Caleb King (@calking) emphasized the importance of granular data, such as census tracks, for more accurate and insightful analysis.
Product Management Director Dan Valente (@Daniel_Valente) showcased how JMP can be applied to transform raw data into valuable insights through interactive data visualization. Principal Software Developer Evan McCorkle's (@EvanMcCorkle) use of JMP to analyze penguin data highlighted the platform's ability to handle diverse datasets and extract meaningful information.
Distinguished Software Developer Drew Foglia (@drewfoglia) called on developers to seize the next opportunity using JMP tools and add-ins.
Finally, Software Development Kristen Slappey (@kristen-slappey) introduced JMP Marketplace, which launched today. The web application allows us to host, organize, distribute, and eventually monetize fully tested applications, add-ins, data connectors, and other JMP extensions. Built like a modern AppStore, the JMP Marketplace has the organization, distribution, ratings, threaded Q&A, and sorting that users expect so that visitors can find interesting and useful add-ins and extensions to expand their JMP software.

Thursday
Paper presentations, Women's Affinity Lunch, and final plenary

David Sianez (@The81Davids) talks with Ben Rost (@B_ROST) between sessions.

Anne Milley (@anne_milley) hosted a Women's Affinity lunch focused on purposeful collaboration and conversations.

Astrophysicist Dr. Jedidah Isler's talk focused on the importance of asking questions and influencing the future through research and teaching. She emphasized that the way we got to where we are today may not be the same way we get to the future and that it is up to us to build the future we want.
Isler encouraged the audience to keep going and to do more, saying the future is fiction until we build it. She also spoke about the importance of using our privilege and position to help others achieve their goals. She said that we are at the pinnacle of our society, country, and field because of what others have done before us and that we have a responsibility to use what we have to help others do more on their path.
Discovery continues!
As always, Discovery Summit brought together brilliant minds from diverse fields, fostering collaboration and innovation. Attendees were inspired by thought-provoking talks and engaging discussions, leaving them energized and equipped to shape the future. The success of this year's event sets a high bar for future summits, promising continued growth and impact in the years to come.
You can find abstracts on the Discovery Summit site. Recordings of papers and plenaries will also be available soon.
