Welcome Mike SticklesMike Stickles joins JMP as a Senior Software Engineer.
Title: Senior Software Engineer
Manager: John Powell (@John_Powell_JMP)
Region: Americas
Start Date: Dec. 1, 2022
LinkedIn profile.
Mike has been working on computers since the late 1970s (when PC RAM was measured in KB, you saved programs to a cassette tape, and at college, you could sometimes debug and fix a program with an X-ACTO knife - yes, he's done that). He's been doing it as a profession since 1994, at companies ranging in size from a five-employee startup (E x H) to defense contractors Raytheon and Lockheed-Martin.
Mike and his wife Celinda live in central Pennsylvania. They have six children - one works with an autism support group, one with an animal rescue, one with a financial services company, two work IT at a Pittsburgh-area hospital, and the youngest is in the Navy's Nuclear Power School. Outside of work, Mike is active with his church, singing in the choir and arranging and setting new music (despite not knowing how to read music); he also maintains a Great Books and Classics website (grtbooks.com) and likes reading, classical, and 'epic' music, and military history.
Feature StoryRe: Welcome Mike SticklesPatrick - yeah, they were great when you had a typo in your punch card, but fixing it only meant adding a hole or two instead of removing any. The two card punch machines usually had long lines of people waiting, so I got pretty good at making my changes with an X-ACTO knife.
I tell young programmers now that my first college programming course was on a mainframe using punch cards, and they look at me like I must have had dinosaurs looking over my shoulder while I worked.
