Query Builder - Using Custom SQL and User PromptsI have a customer who is interested in connecting to a postgres DB with JMP. They have a custom query they would like to use to pull the data (it has some complexity that Query Builder does not support), however, they would also like to prompt the user to select inputs (e.g., time ranges, product ID's, etc.) to select a subset of the data.
I am not aware of Query Builder's ability to use custom SQL AND user prompts (like the Filter to select where...) Do others know if this is possible?
Do others have suggestions for how my customer could achieve what they want? (Right now I am thinking of suggesting that they create a view or tables from their custom query in the DB and then use Query Builder to create the user interface.)
Re: Query Builder - Using Custom SQL and User PromptsBecause the customer SQL is just a sting, the customer could use JSL to prompt the user to select a few options beforehand, then mash together the options into to custom SQL string. This could range from trivial to super complicated, though, depending on their skill level with scripting and how many things need to be customized.
The views option might be better if they want to avoid scripting.
Re: Query Builder - Using Custom SQL and User PromptsYou might see if data connectors might be able to replicate the complexity in their custom SQL. That would allow them to use a standard query builder workflow.
Best,
MRe: Query Builder - Using Custom SQL and User PromptsThis would have been my suggestion. But, to answer Wendy's original question, it is true that Query Builder does not provide for prompting in custom SQL. The SQL string is essentially just passed to the driver, so there's really no possibility there.
