Select columns from Construct Model Effects in Fit Model

What inspired this Wish List Request? 

For data tables with many columns, it can be tedious to select the desired columns.  Some reports like Predictor Screening are linked to the data table so if you select Predictor columns, the corresponding columns in data table also get selected which makes constructing model effects easy.  But other reports like Assess Variable Importance which also generates a similar table is not dynamically linked to data table and as a result the user has to manually fish out the columns in the Fit Model report, typically one column at a time since they will be using the column filter option.  Now the user has constructed main effects on the columns of interest, but now wishes to create the 2 factor-interactions as well.  Currently the user would have to go back to the column viewer and fish out those columns of interest one by one through CTRL-clicking on each one from a list of hundreds or thousands of columns.  It would be much easier to be able to select the main effects already specified in Construct Model Effects and create the interaction terms from there.

Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.  

You should be able to select columns/effects from the Construct Model Effects window and construct new model effects from there without having to go back to the column viewer window.  This becomes extremely helpful when dealing with large datasets with many columns.

What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided? 

Makes JMP easier to use, saves time, and eliminates a tedious process

Is this an external customer request? 

Yes, this came up yesterday at Tesla when they were dealing with datasets with 500+ columns and constructing new models from the assess variable importance report that would be limited to 12 factors only since they wanted to use Design Space Explorer.  Another feature request will be to increase the number of columns supported by Design Space Explorer to be greater than 12.

Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of? 

No

Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?

I second this (or third or fourth).  I also encountered a customer who would like to do something like this.  Please see this case for some supplemental information via Tech Support from a few weeks ago.

My question to Tech Support:  "In Predictor Screening, you can dynamically click and relate selected columns/variables back to the data table Columns panel.  Is there a way to do something like this in Fit Model?  I understand there could be interactions in a given effect under “Effect Summary” (with multiple columns), but maybe all of those columns could be selected too?  This would be helpful if there are a large number of columns that need to be hidden and/or excluded due to insignificant p-values."

@AdamMorris mentioned that you can exclude effects from the model directly from the Effect Summary, but that it would only affect the current report (thanks for investigating, Adam!)
