Level: Beginner
Statistics educators have long recognized the value of projects and case studies as a way to integrate multiple topics within a single lecture. Whether teaching statistical inference to beginners or training employees on analytical methods, it is helpful for learners to know that their analysis takes place within a larger process that follows a predictable workflow. In this presentation, we will demonstrate a JMP Project to support each stage of the analysis of Airbnb's inventory data. Using the Journal, Graph Builder, Query Builder and various other tools within the JMP Project environment, learners will learn how to document the process. The process might look something like this:
1. Ask questions
2. Identify data needs and analysis plan
3. Collect data
4. Prepare your data
5. Run the analysis
6. Tell a story By teaching a reliable workflow, you can help learners begin to follow the logic of statistical thinking and develop good thinking habits. Without workflow explanations, a statistics lecture can seem like a series of unrelatable and unmotivating methods. When learners adopt the perspective of a project workflow, the pieces come together in exciting ways.
