When developing a new analysis tool in JMP, you inevitably have to decide what to prioritize:
1) Will adding more muscle make the product stronger?
2) Will it make it sexier and more exciting?
3) Will you focus on relieving your pain so that it is less frustrating and less painful?
If you were to describe it in a long word starting with A, you could say anabolic, aphrodisiac or analgesic. Which one should you choose? John Sall says analgesic is the answer. Pain relief should be a central motivation in development.
Of course, these three are not mutually exclusive. Adding interesting and powerful features can also help ease the pain. But pain relief is key, because pain keeps us stuck, demotivated, and only allows us to get a fraction of the information we can from data.
