Showa Denko Materials has been working on incorporating statistical methods into the development of its main products, functional materials, across the company since around 2017. The development of functional materials is an extremely complex design optimization problem in which dozens of design variables are tuned to optimize multiple objective variables, and trial and error is repeated every day to solve it.
Statistical methods such as experimental design are effective in reducing the burden of such trial and error, but for many materials researchers who have not received statistical education at university, it is not easy to incorporate statistical methods into their work and master their use. That's why we focused on JMP, which is easy to use even for statistical novices. After four years of training dual-wielding personnel with both statistical skills and materials knowledge, with JMP at the core, we are now seeing examples of the use of statistical methods coming up every day from many departments.
In this presentation,
・The significance and effect of promoting JMP and statistics as a materials manufacturer ・Our efforts to develop in-house data scientists ・Education and outreach activities by JMP users in each department
I will talk about this from the perspective of a promoter.
