In the Kagoshima Prefecture Tea Market, the appearance and color of tea to be bid on are photographed with a digital camera for the purpose of improving the quality of tea, and the images are analyzed for texture and color, and the values of seven appearance characteristics and three color characteristics are provided to each farmer via smartphone, etc., along with the unit price and the image. In this article, we introduce the trends of first-season tea characteristics, which were analyzed using JMP on 1,221 image data points from Hioki City, with the aim of utilizing this information.
As a result of principal component analysis, 71.5% of the crude tea characteristics could be explained by component 1, which was due to the appearance item, and component 2, which was due to the water color item. Model fitting showed that the bidding date and variety had the greatest influence on the fluctuation in the crude tea unit price, and when the crude tea items of appearance color (hue angle: h) and water color color (h) were added to these, 83% of the unit price fluctuation could be explained by four factors. The unit price in 2021 was high at all factories, and the residual between the model's predicted unit price and the actual value suggested that there were factory characteristics other than model factors that affected the unit price.
In 2021, the appearance color was in the range of 120 to 140, and the light blue color increased to 100 or more, and their unit prices were high. In addition, there were varieties whose unit prices increased over the three-year period and varieties whose unit prices were sluggish, and the unit price model for each variety identified the items of crude tea that needed to be improved, and guidance points for picking and manufacturing were shown.
