In Japan, home medical care and nursing care are being promoted with the goal of building a comprehensive community care system as one of the measures to deal with the aging society. In this study, we investigated the status of home medical care in hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies nationwide using facility standard information for medical and pharmacy facilities reported to the Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare, including 91,163 medical institutions (medical) and 59,410 pharmacies, and analyzed regional uneven distribution and factors.
The percentage of medical institutions by prefecture that had reported standards for home care support clinics, home care support hospitals, home care performance premiums, and home care rear support hospitals ranged from 10.5% to 31.7%, while the percentage of pharmacies that had reported home patient dispensing premiums ranged from 11% to 47.1%. Spatial analysis showed a trend of higher rates in the west and lower rates in the east, suggesting that there may be regional differences in the home care provision systems of health insurance medical institutions. A multivariate analysis was conducted using regional factors such as population density, elderly population, and number of hospital beds, as well as facility factors such as pharmacy functions.
