Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 16, 2024!
Cooler temperatures were much appreciated in Cary this week, especially in mornings and evenings. I’m certainly looking forward to more of that this weekend. Could it really be an early fall?
It was a big week for releases: JMP Student Edition was released in time for the start of the fall semester, and EA2 was released to our Early Adopters. A reminder that any customer with a JMP 18 license is eligible for the Early Adopter program and you can send those customers to our EA page. JMP staff can access the EA by signing into My JMP.
The Final Image Candidate for JMP 18.1 will be available next week (final security fix going in today) and testing will begin validating and preparing for the final release. Most developers are focused on JMP 19 features with some bug fixes still going into JMP 18.2. We also have a JMP 18.1.1 track available for security fixes or major bug fixes that can’t wait for 18.2. With EAs also thrown in, there’s lots going on in the build world – many thanks to Jim Borek for juggling all of those needs.
Our next scheduled JMP dev meeting will be next week 8/22. At that session, we’ll hear a presentation by the Data Connectors team on their JMP 19 progress. Also, we’ll meet on 8/29 to hear about an add-in Luciano has created to integrate more genomic sequence pre-processing capabilities into JMP Pro! If you’d like to sign up for a future JMP Dev slot, please see the JMP Dev Volunteer Schedule in Confluence here.

JMP Development Updates
Core
- Xan Gregg: Support Undo for GB show/hide commands; making Undo UI-only (non-scripting) in more places.
- David Barbour: Fixing recent jiras: Combo box append failure, Seach Dialog settings bug, recode/table box sort issue, MFI enabled state bug
- Dan Schikore: Fixed crash when data filter is closed, fixed drawing artifacts on Windows with display > 30k pixels, worked with Bryan Boone to fix a connection dialog stretching issue, more work on PlatformContainerBox and fixes for introduced issues, worked with Laura Lancaster on Group Platform broadcast issues for Process Capability, added Student Edition watermarking at JMP 18.2/19.0.
DOE and Reliability
- Irene Ji: Investigating Jira tickets and working on research projects.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Received the Lenovo laptop with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite CPU. Installed JMP Pro 18.0.1 from My JMP and JMP runs well under x64 emulation. Many tests including Baselines ran with only one very minor difference from Intel machine (Numeric diff in 13th decimal place of one test). All NIST tests pass. Further testing is needed, especially the OpenBLAS library but the machine is not allowed on the SAS network due to no ARM BeyondTrust. Performance of the machine is quite good and I think any customer who installs an existing version of JMP on this generation of CPU should have no problems. As a bonus, our x64-based Excel add-in works fine within the ARM-based version of Excel. An ARM native build of JMP is needed to determine performance advantages of ARM. Crash investigations. Review and discussions of Clipping changes. Removed “tablet mode” support from JMP 19. Continued progress on Dark Mode support.
Interactive HTML & JMP Live
- John Powell: Added support to display control charts when clicking on points in the Goal Plot or Process Performance Graph of the Process Screening platform’s web-based process browser(JMPHTML-14032).
- Paul Spychala: Worked on more Profiler support for HTML/JMP Live. Support Embedded Bivariate Loess Profilers in Interactive HTML [JMPHTML-13951]. Also worked on more Math Operation support for use in Profilers (such as Distribution Platform): Add HTML MathML Support for SHASH Distribution Operation [JMPHTML-13971], Add HTML MathML Support for Johnson Su Distribution Operation [JMPHTML-13977], Add HTML MathML Support for Normal Mixture Distribution Operation [JMPHTML-13976], Add HTML MathML Support for Interpolate Operation [JMPHTML-14034]. Also held meetings about when to have Fit to Window for HTML Reports.
- Aurora Tiffany-Davis: Control chart warning improvements (support customized tests, add more filtering for assignment to group, plan more user guidance for triage reset scenario, investigate performance limits, create abbreviated new feature page, review external UX study performed by Bryan Fricke - thank you Bryan!). Met with Bavarian Nordic about an upcoming JMP Live demo.
Statistics
- Annie Dudley: Continuing work on adding sort-by-row-order for nested X variables in Control Chart Builder (Jira-JMP-8247), together with Xan and Ernest.
Stat Testing & Documentation
- Mark Bailey: recorded the presentation for JMP Discovery Summit USA with Tonya. I discussed new crashes in Easy DOE unit test scripts with Jacob after Dan introduced a new container box. I continued working on the add-in for a prototype of Bayesian optimization. I am developing a case study for BO based on the original and popular PenSim simulation of Penicillin batch production.
- Haley Yaremych: Added UTs and resolved some JIRA tickets related to changes in the appearance of the SEM report when using the MIIV-2SLS estimator. Experimented with the JMP-to-Python connector for running R code. Met with James to discuss SEM testing and STIPS module 2.
- Jacob Rhyne: Testing Categorical, writing new tests for Compare Each Cell for cases with overlapping counts. Testing Easy DOE, investigating crashes (resolved today) and beta feedback. Working with Bill Fisher to help him get started testing his Choice Design add-in. Verifying Jira tickets and adding unit tests
- Hamid Sanei: Drafted the LGC no-growth model example. Searched for external datasets focusing on publicly available longitudinal studies. Reviewed LGC models in the SEM chapter to aid in developing the new example. Discussed dataset availability and selection for the LGC no-growth example with Laura C-S via Teams. Read a key paper on alternative independence models, which will inform the LGC no-growth model development.
