Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 9, 2024!
I hope that everyone on the east coast made it through the storm ok! We had 5” of rain at my house in Cary yesterday and about an inch or so today, but the sun has been shining this afternoon. I hear the storm caused travel delays, power outages and water issues for some of you, but hopefully those have since resolved for everyone!
While many people were out of the office this week due to vacations, illness, JSM or customer travel, there was still quite a lot going on in development. In release news, testing for JMP Student Edition 18.0.2 is nearly complete. JMP 19 EA2 work is also closer to wrapping up, with rounds of testing and rebuilds happening this week for some configurations. We have a few remaining EA issues that we hope to resolve early next week prior to signoff.
With many of our JMP summer students finishing up their projects and preparing to head back to school, we had quite a few dev meetings in the past several weeks. This week, we took a break from meeting and I do not currently have a topic for next week either. I will be out of the office next week from Wednesday-Friday getting my own college student back to Western Carolina University in the mountains, so Audrey Shull has kindly volunteered to do the update next Friday. Please send your news to her – she will also send out the reminder email on Friday morning.
Our next scheduled JMP dev meeting is planned for 8/22. At that session, we’ll hear a presentation by the Data Connectors team on their JMP 19 progress. Also, we’ll meet on 8/29 to hear about an add-in Luciano has created to integrate more genomic sequence pre-processing capabilities into JMP Pro! If you’d like to sign up for a future JMP Dev slot, please see the JMP Dev Volunteer Schedule in Confluence here.
Thanks to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash details for the last two weeks (with crashes selected)!

JMP Development Updates
Core
- Dave B: Fixed a problem with table boxes with column spans saving as html. Fixed multiple display issues with the MFI dialog. Fixed a bug with table box and rows being too tall when variable row height was turned on. Pushed a first pass at table box row grouping:

dt=open("$sample_data\big class.jmp");
new window("row groups",datatablebox(dt,<
- Xan: Matrix const work; p-spline Matrix math functions; adding Hide and Settings options to legend right-click menu.
- Evan: Beginning work on Copy/Paste improvements for Table Scripts, Table Variables, and Columns in v19.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Attended JSM in Portland, OR. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with some of my external colleagues. I even made a few pitches at the JMP Booth on Sample Size Explorers and Easy DOE! Thankfully, the weather did not interfere with my return travel.
Hosting and Interfaces
- Will Morgan:
- SharePoint Connector: Code is up for review: http://jmpswarm.na.sas.com/reviews/793359 The user no longer needs to authenticate on every API request. However, the application is still a bit slow when not utilizing schemas or a configured folder to narrow down the search for files in OneDrive. I will be looking into other solutions for this, or methods to let the user know that API calls that parse their entire OneDrive will take a while.
- Aside from that I have been learning more about the JMP C++ codebase to start developing more backend code for data connectors. I have a few JIRAs piled up that require come C++ coding that I have on my radar for the next while. It will take me a while to get acquainted with the complex codebase, but I will get there! If anyone has any tips or tricks I would love to hear them!
- John Schroedl: More work on Dark Mode support with the Preference still disabled. Helped on some tech support tracks and fielded a couple of Visual Studio questions. Manning the pump to remove water from our crawlspace.
Interactive HTML
- John Powell: Modified Interactive HTML export, loading, and storage mechanisms to support integrating multiple XML sections(JMPHTML-13996). Integrated Praveena’s shelved code to produce a new Process Screening browser example that displays control charts when you select rows in the Process Summary table.
- Paul Spychala:
- Worked on more Profiler support for HTML/JMP Live.

Statistics
- Laura C-S: Fixing several bugs that Haley has found in MIIV-2SLS involving the improvement of the appearance of the report, the approach for reporting issues in estimation, and adjusting the status tab. Fixed a performance bug in MIIV with Haley’s help. She found a formula that made a huge impact!
Added some warnings to the Generate R Code option suggested by Haley and Yusuke. Met with Haley to discuss all these ongoing changes. Answered questions about SEM for tech support.
- John Sall: For the Profiler, the Set Desirabilities dialog now shows all responses in one window; also the menus have been restructured somewhat (JMP-22515).
Stat Testing
- Haley: Met with Laura C-S a couple of times to discuss testing the MIIV estimator, as well as adjustments to the SEM platform when using the MIIV estimator. Started looking into the JMP-to-Python integration to see if I can use it to test the R Code Generator in the SEM platform. Completed STIPS module 2.
- Tonya: Working on my Discovery presentation with Mark Bailey. Cleaning up unit tests. Bug verification.
Life Sciences Updates
- Wenjun: We had a great visit to Eli Lilly. We gave two seminars: JMP Clinical in the morning and AI in the afternoon. Each seminar was followed by 2 focused sessions with the topic Lilly chose to dive deeper with very active discussions, and then leadership briefing sessions joined by several VPs and a senior VP. Also, Mia and I were randomly selected as VIPs by the hotel so we had upgraded suites and free access to a lounge. The four of us got free breakfasts and a "private" meeting room to brief after we finished the Lilly visit. We flew back today - most of us got delayed in different airports. ☹
- Drew: Bug fixes and feature work in JMP Clinical 18.2/19.0. One in particular to bring consistency of behavior between the Review Subject Filter and reports by honoring the study-wide population preference.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Bryan F: Completed the tasks related to conducting a usability study and setting up automated user data collection through AWS S3. The AWS S3 hosted Marketplace usability script was distributed and 9 responses have been collected so far, which I’m currently processing. In collaboration with Sarah Sylvestre, a heuristic evaluation of the Marketplace is also underway. I plan to provide feedback to Kristen Slappey on both fronts next week. I am coordinating with Dieter, Alex Taylor, and Aurora for an upcoming JMP Live usability study involving Evonik.
