Compelling examples for wood products manufacturing?I'm in need of presentation and demo materials that speak as closely as possible to data science applications in wood products manufacturing. (A rather specific request, I know.)
I'm giving a presentation and workshop at a small industry-focused data science conference hosted by the University of Tennessee. Attendees will be ~25 engineers and data scientists from the following companies: Louisiana-Pacific, Georgia-Pacific, Huber Engineered Woods, Roseburg Forest Products, Egger Wood Products, Hexion, West Fraser, and Kronospan.
For both the presentation and workshop, I'm looking for any materials that will resonate with the wood products industry (or adjacent chemical companies like Hexion). So far, I've found a Hexion customer story and a few wood image classification data sets on Kaggle, but I figured I'd ask you all for any recommendations while I continue my own search.
Materials could include JMP customer stories, white papers, Discovery Summit presentations, etc. Sample data sets would of course be helpful, too. And I'm open to materials not directly from the target industry but perhaps similar enough to still be compelling to this audience.

Re: Compelling examples for wood products manufacturing?JANR has a fake plywood dataset Statistical Decisions Using ANOVA and Regression Course - JMP User Community, look in the PDF starting at page 4-71 and in the journal in Lesson 4. The plywood thickness mean and stdev across the sheet are the responses in a study. Box-Cox transformations are used to stabilize the variance.
I've also successfully had conversations with GP engineers about SPC on plywood similar to the conversations I have with semiconductor manufacturing engineers. They both have variation within a sheet of plywood (or a wafer) and variation between sheets. You could repurpose some wafer data.

Re: Compelling examples for wood products manufacturing?I've heard stories around plywood dimensions being a big deal and how hard it was to get people to actually record data for control charts. Resins and other wood derived products might have some strong similarity with petrochemical processes.
I don't have any data from GP when I was in the South East territory, they always had plenty of problem data sets of their own

If working with boards, particularly if higher value/higher quality then drying process is important.
If using more at the fiber level, or for stripping veneer for plywood - then drying not as relevant.

Re: Compelling examples for wood products manufacturing?I just remembered - there's also a board strength example in JANR - it's in the case studies section at the back. It's for ANCOVA - strength vs density for different types of wood.
