Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 2, 2024!
Early this week, JMP DevOps created a set of JMP Student Edition 18.0.2 installers at the request of JMP senior management. With a different version number, new splash screen and updated installer name, the 18.0.2 Student Edition will allow us to make JMP Pro features available to students before the new academic year begins. By mid-August, these installers are planned to replace the free JMP installers currently being made available to students with a valid university email address in the JMP Store. Making software available in the Store in this way helps ensure Student Edition users are university-affiliated and greatly reduces administrative costs for both the university and for JMP business and legal teams who would otherwise handle time-consuming legal and contract related tasks. More comprehensive user interface changes and authorization updates will be coming for Student Edition in 18.2 so stay tuned.
In other release news, we are nearing security freeze for JMP 18.1 on 8/9/24. JMP 19 EA2 installers are also being created and will be verified prior to being released in MyJMP once QA signoff and MyJMP updates are complete (most likely by August 12). Thank you all for working on updates to feature pages, videos, and bug fixes in response to customer feedback received so far! As a reminder, we are currently planning to freeze JMP 19 EA3 on Friday, 9/20/2024.
Mia Stephens says that now is a good time to invite users to join the EA program. As a reminder, EA members must be authorized for JMP 18, JMP Pro 18, or JMP Clinical 18 to test respective EA versions. See EARLY ADOPTER PROGRAM for additional information about the program and changes in JMP 19, or feel free to reach out to Mia.
Mia also shares that the online Discovery Americas, Early User Edition is Sept 18-19. Meet the Experts (1:00-1:40 each day) will be staffed by SEs but development staff are welcome to attend. You can register using the link provided on the page. (If you are on the program you are already registered). Planning for the in-person Discovery Americas 2024 in Cary (Oct 21-24) is well underway. If you are presenting, and/or have spoken with your manager about attending, please hold tight. Information on staffing, how to register, how/when to book travel if needed and other details will be shared via the Discovery team in the coming weeks.
As Audrey Shull mentioned in her update below, “It’s been a really great last week of summer with the interns. Thanks everyone who came out to support them at the Intern Expo yesterday!” You can also find Allison Hines’ nice recap article on the Intern Expo here on InsideJMP. A very big thank you to all our interns who presented at round 3 and round 4 of the dev demos sessions this week! You can find all the recordings and slides for all four intern JMP Dev sessions linked from the 2024 Intern Presentations
Confluence page. And as always, a huge thanks to Audrey (our intern ambassador supreme), Andy Zhou, all our other intern managers and the entire JMP HR team for making the JMP intern experience such a special one. And beyond HR, I appreciate everything all of our JMP team members did to welcome, support and mentor interns this summer!

I’ve also been preparing for JSM next week.
- Irene: Fixed 2 Jira tickets with Ryan, submitted MEMOCODE paper, working on research projects.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Discussions and reviews of clipping changes with Evan. Added an option which may help Mike M. with Sikuli testing. Starting work toward supporting Dark Mode on Windows. First order of business there is some preference handling cleanup. I plan to promote the recent source changes and package updates to support uploading survey results to our production telemetry server this weekend.
- Will Morgan: Intern Expo went well! Thank you to all who came by to see my poster board. Also, thanks to everyone who stuck around for my JMP presentation, if you have any questions about the S3 data connector, feel free to reach out to me. I have also fixed a few minor bugs for the Python data connectors: JMP-22389, JMP-22390. JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (working on supporting assignment to a group). The main thing I did this week was get COVID. The HCC said it's going around for sure. I don't know how to translate this into advice, because the only thing that would have spared me is "for no apparent reason, refuse to send your kid to summer camp, and don't celebrate your mom's birthday". Not very practical advice.

Statistics
- John Sall: For Categorical, met with P&G and implemented cell highlighting comparing to control group (JMP-22426); For Profiler, participated in a UI planning session and raised an N Levels limit from 200 to 1000; For Process Screening, built a tabbed and data-table-linked version, made datetime-labeled file names, and wrote a simplified Goal Plot for the html version (JMP-22074). (Thanks to Praveena who provided a draft working example in https://sww2.sas.com/jmphtml5/Test/Praveena/ProcessScreening/Aug1st/2024-08-01-08-01-47-ProcessSummary.html)
- Laura C-S: Working on the examples for Bollen’s upcoming SEM book, which helped me find ways to improve the MIIV-2SLS report and a performance bug. I’ve been working on those improvements, fixing a couple bugs, and investigating the performance issue. Also recorded an EA2 video to highlight the benefits of MIIV-2SLS in SEM.
Stat Documentation
- Hamid: Setting, discussing, and planning goals for H2 with my manager (Michael). Reviewing Multivariate Methods Platforms and Doc to prepare for the related Jira issues (e.g., new features). Began working on two open SEM DOC Jira Issues which require adding new examples to the doc.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Debugged a long-standing, intermittent set of unit test failures with Nicole (failures only occurred on Apple Silicon machines, which disrupted random number generation while making custom designs). Discussed training opportunities for Bayesian Optimization with Ruth and DI. Reviewed notes from the HCI conference to highlight opportunities for JMP with Ryan, Joseph, and Jacob. Redesigned launch dialog and added a Recall feature to prototype add-in for Bayesian optimization. Developing common use cases to compare conventional sequential experimentation techniques with BO. Attended student intern presentations.
- Jacob: Writing a new unit test for OML Screening Designs, focusing on cases where categorical factors can have more than 2 levels. Testing Categorical updates for JMP 19, working on additional tests for Mean Score Comparisons and Compare Each Cell with cross-table comparisons. Verifying Jira tickets and cleaning unit tests.
- Haley: Wrote scripts to compute benchmarks for the MIIV-2SLS estimator in the SEM platform. Created UTs for and verified a couple of bugs in the SEM platform. Met with Laura Castro-Schilo to discuss research ideas. Completed the first module of the STIPS course.
Life Sciences Updates
- Richard: Implementing a Recurrence report for adverse events within JMP Clinical.

- Bryan F: Collaborated with Justin Chilton on how to display report regeneration errors, and guiding users to resolution as well as triaging history. Provided design guidance to JMP Live team. Gave Marketplace feedback to Kristen Slappey, prepared usability test script, and setting up S3 bucket to deliver usability instructions and receive client data. Many thanks to Alex Taylor for enabling me to do the AWS work.
