Thanks to Falco Kronmuller and team, the JMP Student Store has reached a remarkable milestone in July with over 10,000 student downloads since its launch in November of 2023. The store provides free access to JMP for verified students and their instructors at www.jmp.com/student. Courses in over 70 different countries have participated and we are reaching many new universities as well.
Elsewhere in Q2, the team was actively engaged with users at key universities and conferences to educate and inspire JMP use. One way we engage is through academic workshops for faculty and graduate students demonstrating JMP for various course needs that drive new and expanded use on campus. A few of these activities and highlights from Q2 include,
AMERICAS:
Virginia Tech
The JMP Academic team was invited to deliver a half-day workshop on campus at Virginia Tech. Faculty and researchers from Statistics, Physics, Veterinary Medicine, and Chemical Engineering joined Ross Metusalem, JMP Academic Ambassador, for three hours covering an introduction to JMP, data visualization, and predictive modeling. Prof. Jennifer Van Mullekom, JMP Champion and Director of the Statistics Applications and Innovations Group, subsequently connected Ross with the instructor of STAT 2004, the Statistics Department’s introductory statistics course, who is now converting that course to JMP. Prof. Van Mullekom also has agreed to join the Discovery Summit steering committee.
New Mexico State University
New Mexico State University recently purchased a JMP Academic Suite license, but a contact at the university bemoaned that JMP was not widely known on campus, in part due to NMSU IT not posting JMP to the university software website. Over 30 faculty, grad students, and researchers from Biology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Geography joined Ross Metusalem, for an introduction to JMP and a deep dive on data analysis and visualization. Afterward, one faculty member reported being blown away by JMP’s capabilities and regretting using Excel “all these years.” Additionally, discussions in the lead-up to the workshop prompted NMSU IT to begin promoting JMP on their software website to boost JMP’s availability to faculty and students.
Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
The Statistics Department at Cal Poly is widely regarded as a leading program with thought leaders in modern statistics education. The department has used JMP as its primary software in a dozen different courses for the past 10+ years and has since expanded into the life sciences. Today, JMP is one of the most downloaded software tools on campus. In May, Kevin Potcner delivered a “New in JMP 18” workshop to faculty mostly within statistics. During this visit, he also visited with the Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments which will be adopting JMP since the school is canceling their Minitab license due to JMP being a more attractive option.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
Founded in 1865, WPI was one of the United States' first engineering and technology universities with 14 academic departments with over 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Pany Allen helped the Chemical Engineering department acquire a campus license to use JMP Pro for academic research. Now faculty in the Computer Science and Physics departments have plans to incorporate JMP in their data analysis and decision science courses.
EMEA:
ESCAPE & PSE
During June 2-6, 2024, Paolo Chiappa and Volker Kraft attended the 34th Joint European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE) and International Symposium on Process Systems Engineering (PSE) held in Florence, Italy. As a first-time sponsoring, it was a good opportunity to make more than 1000 chemical engineers – both from academia and industry – aware of JMP. In addition to the JMP exhibit, where we discussed several promising future collaborations, our workshop on predictive modeling (demonstrating model screening, deep learning, and functional data analysis in JMP Pro 18) resonated very well with that audience.

Bilkent University - Turkey
Bilkent University (abbreviation of bilim kenti: Turkish for "city of science") has constantly been ranked among the top Turkish universities since its establishment in 1984. Their new semiconductor manufacturing center contacted the Academic team in February 2024 as they were looking for statistical analysis software for a new academic semiconductor microfabrication research project. Our JMP Pro for multi-user license was immediately seen as a valuable resource to make sure that all members can 'speak the same language' and make data-driven decisions more accurately. Also, part of the project is the need to train PhDs and other students in the analysis techniques offered by JMP. For this, we will organize several online activities in the second part of the year to expand its use in other departments of the University as well.
ASIA:
Inha University -South Korea
IkJu Shin provided a workshop introducing JMP to faculty and graduate students in the digital business major track at the Graduate School of Business. 10 professors and 20 graduate students attended and were surprised by JMP's interactive features and showed great interest in JMP's EDA, Clustering, Factor Analysis, and SEM features. They were unhappy with the high price of SPSS but were very satisfied with the performance and price of JMP Academic Suite. Two professors teaching Basic Statistics and 6 Sigma classes said they plan to use JMP in their classes next semester.
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
The Operations Management department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has transitioned from Minitab to JMP for their Quality Engineering course. Murali organized a series of onboarding sessions with Professor Indrajit Mukherjee, providing him with the necessary resources and support. Professor Mukherjee expressed great satisfaction with the introduction of JMP in the course and is now considering the use of JMP Pro for other courses, including Process Modeling and Optimization.

Zhejiang University -China
Professor Wang learned of JMP at the earlier Tsinghua Reliability Conference and wants to use it to teach his reliability course. Though he is still learning JMP he invited SE Weihua Li to provide an onsite lecture to introduce faculty and students to JMP. Weihua provided an introduction to the essentials of JMP along with case studies on reliability. Attendees were impressed with JMP and found the session insightful and broadened their understanding of reliability applications.

Tsinghua University -China
The DOE course at Tsinghua University is relatively basic and theoretical, lacking application-based teaching and case studies. Professor Fang reached out to us, hoping we could share some industrial cases where JMP was used to solve real problems. SE Jun An provided a two-hour course, familiarizing students with JMP's features and providing background and scenarios of its industrial use. The interactive way of teaching deepened their understanding of DOE and JMP software.
