SAS co-founder and JMP chief architect
John Sall (
@John_Sall
) welcomed employees from around the world to the JMP Midyear Update on Tuesday, sharing details about our newest product launch – JMP 18! “New releases can be exciting, but not always in a good way,” he said, referencing the recent
Crowdstrike bug
that sent many Windows systems into failure. “Fortunately, our new release went very well,” Sall explained that the distribution of JMP 18, which took place on the MyJMP platform, was challenging, but offered a better download experience for customers.
Looking ahead, JMP 18.1 will be out in a few weeks, while the JMP 19 Early Adopter (EA) program launched a few weeks ago and EA2 will launch soon.
Saying farewell
Sall announced that Analytical Technical Support Engineering Senior Manager Duane Hayes (
@Duane_Hayes
) will retire in September after 32 years at JMP. Thank you for your years of service, Duane!
Out to lunch
Sall encouraged employees to return to the office if the circumstances worked for them. “Coming to the office means more in-person interactions, a better sense of community, and a better sharing of ideas.” An incentive to return to SAS world headquarters is on the horizon! Next month, the Terrace Café in Building A will re-open; it has been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sall also announced plans for a reunion event in 2025. “I’m looking forward to that,” he said.
Sales highlights
Sales Senior Vice President Michael Scruggs (
@Michael_Scruggs
) took the stage to share news on the first half for sales. “I’m pleased to say we really had a great first half for NSR [new software revenue], so congratulations,” he said.
Scruggs also boasted about JMP’s low attrition rate. “We aren’t losing customers, but we have to focus on renewals and execute flawlessly in the second half to meet expectations.”
Brand marketing
Communications Manager Landra Robertson (
@LandraRobertson
) shared details about a new Brand Roadshow coming soon to get all JMPers on the same page about JMP’s brand initiatives. “Brand is an asset, brand is a goal, and everyone is a JMP brand ambassador,” Robertson said.
The JMP Communications team will schedule customized meetings with divisions soon, tailoring each session to specific roles and departments. A new brand video was created to help spread the brand excitement:
Robertson also shared updates on branding for the JMP Discovery Summit series. JMP Discovery Americas has been rebranded as JMP Discovery 2024 and will be promoted as our official flagship event.

Message from the CEO
CEO Jon Weisz (
@Jon_Weisz
) struck a positive and optimistic tone during his update. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the company but emphasized the significant progress made. “It’s not been easy, but boy, we’ve done well!” Weisz exclaimed.
“JMP is having a strong year, with companies increasingly recognizing the value of data analytics,” he said. “Knowledge is maturing in the marketplace. Now it’s about how to apply it and where to apply it. This puts JMP in the right place at the right time with much-needed products and many opportunities for growth.”
On the operational front, Weisz highlighted the successful launch of the JMP Store in all key markets (with the exception of China). He also emphasized the positive strides made in transitioning legacy SAS contracts to JMP.
Financially, Weisz reported a 6% increase in revenue, indicating a positive trend. However, he acknowledged a temporary dip in renewals, which are down 5%. Weisz explained this by citing the lag in processing renewals, which creates a delay in reflecting the full financial picture. He reassured everyone that the data points to a strong year, and it's simply a matter of time for customer renewals to catch up.
Overall, JMP is performing well, but we need to focus on securing renewals to meet full-year expectations. Look for more updates during the Q3 Update in October.
