All, I talked with some of you about a dedicated web page for software administrators at academia (don’t confuse with JMP Administrator license for business and administrative use).
The goal would be two-fold:
1) Respond to some typical pre-sales questions and concerns, and
2) provide some useful links for post-sales use.
I would suggest to focus more on 1) with benefits for admins and an FAQ, but also provide a few pointers – also to user communities – and some tips for 2). This should be in line with our general web page vs. community approach.
This page should also be translated into DE, FR, IT (as soon as this project continues, still waiting for translations ).
Please edit the content below or add your comments in order to get a joint draft for this page developed. Thank you!

- Efficient 2nd level support – superior SAS Technical Support
- Highly customizable installers – menus, preferences, installed files
- Integration with other packages (SAS, Excel, R, MATLAB, etc.)
FAQ
Who can apply for an academic license?
>>> The customer organization has to be a DGI (degree-granting institution), and all usage has to be non-commercial and limited to teaching, learning and research.
Are there any other academic licenses available in addition to the JMP Academic Suite?
>>> Yes, we also offer JMP Genomics or JMP Clinical site licenses, as well as single user licenses for researchers, business administrators or students. If you need help choosing an academic license please check http://www.jmp.com/en_us/academic/academic-licensing.html#help-deciding or contact us at academic@jmp.com.
How can I request a formal quote for academic use?
>>> Please email to academic@jmp.com.
What would our users be missing if we switched from other data analytics software (say SPSS?) to JMP?
>>> Basically nothing, since the JAS includes JMP Pro and most features are built-in. Functionality can also be extended by JMP scripting or by integration with e.g. SAS, R or MATLAB. For native JMP Pro features check the Feature Index http://www.jmp.com/en_us/software/feature-index.html or Capabilities Index http://www.jmp.com/en_us/software/capabilities.html, if you are still unsure please send your requirements and use cases to academic@jmp.com.
Will your academic fees remain stable?
>>> Over many years, JMP licensing fees for academic customers have not been raised overall. Before each license renewal you receive a letter indicating the fees for the following year, with the option to cancel your license. In the past our cancellation rate of academic annual licenses was below 2? %.
What level of technical support can we expect?
>>> In the seldom case that a JMP user is stuck you can rely on our renowned 24/7 SAS Technical Support, located in many countries and speaking many languages. Most support engineers have a strong statistical and programming background to ensure the best quality of support. Additional help and discussions can be found in our user communities.
What to do in projects with industry partners?
>>> Non-academic or commercial users, including many hospitals and research labs, can be covered by a commercial JMP license. Please visit http://www.jmp.com/buy for more information.
Can I deploy JMP on a server or in the cloud?
... (add this item as soon as we know more about the JMP presentation server option)

I would also like to mention the JMP Academic Suite has the eLearning courses. Many are not aware of this and don't know where to get more details. We could atleast show the link with the course info and they will get the code via email with their license files/keys.
I would vote for a flat layout, and easy to read. Presales focus: Just showing JMP administration is easy and flexible, and a lot of help is provided by resources, communities etc.
More technical details for customers can also be given in communities. The web site should link to the real stuff.
Good suggestions. Haven't started this yet. Any other comments? Any thoughts on what you'd like for look, feel, or layout? Or, would y'all just like something that's relatively flat?
I would also like to put the contact information for our contracts department for invoice request as well as new SIDS and license keys. Our local email is contracts@sas.com and phone number is 919-677-8003
.
Also would like to put the tech support email and phone number for installation questions. A video of where to find everything like on demand webcasts and resources would be great as well.
I have a couple comments,
Under FAQ's it might be useful to have a question such as, "Is there any limit to the number of copies I can deploy to students, faculty and researchers?"
Under FAQs -or perhaps elsewhere- it may also be useful to ask, "so I get both JMP and JMP Pro, should I deploy and make both available?"
Regarding ESD email. I checked into this last year and recall that at least part of the problem/confusion relates to the above (deploying both).
Bob Hickey will be a good reviewer of copy for the page.
I think it makes a lot of sense to develop an academic version of the JMP Deployment Guide. There is a lot of stuff in the current guide that isn't relevant and is confusing to academics. I can take a stab at getting this started if everyone is in agreement.
For the second point, we've talked about this, and I think Pany and Chuck and maybe Curt had some thoughts/suggestions. But, I don't recall where we wound up with this other than we'll have to facilitate better and let academics know what to expect.
Hi all, two other related questions raised several times in the past:
1) What do we think about the JMP Deployment Guide? First, do we still want to create an academic version of that document? I would suggest to document the main admin tasks a) roll-out b) upgrade c) renewal and d) request support, with brief step by step instructions and pointers to existing resources (standard guide, support web page, admin community). Any thoughts?
2) Second, we discussed some customer complaints about the product license delivery when we met in Boston. Do you think there is any chance to simplify the JMP® ESD Software Order E-mail sent out by SAS contracts? I don't see any easy change here, but maybe somebody has a great idea?
Thank you for your comments and suggestions, Volker
Hi Mia, if you think this is "ready" to convert into a web page please go ahead. Thanks a lot in advance!
Thanks for pulling this content together Volker! Do you think we've got enough of an outline and structure to start developing the web page? I'd be happy to get the ball rolling on that if you'd like. We can develop a draft of the page, which would give us a better feel for what it will look like, links,...
Mia
Pany (by email) also suggested a video to share to potential users of JMP or a welcome to JMP type video.
