Overview
A common request of JMP is to add the ability to open/access the content of .stdf files, regularly used in the semiconductor industry. Python integration broadens the scope of data challenges able to be addressed with JMP, such as accessing these.stdf files. JMP Add-ins allows users to create, distribute, and standardize capabilities not available natively in JMP across an organization.
Purpose
To provide an ‘art of the possible’ JMP Add-in as a tool to demo Python integration capabilities by accessing/importing data from .stdf files, in the form of a single file or directory of files, as part of a JMP analysis workflow (for demo purposes only at this time).
Description
Please see this TRL posting for a more complete description and resources on the use case of Python integration for data access and related resources also provided in this TRL posting.
Contents
- JMP add-in file
- 4 .stdf files for selection; 3 include spec (low/high) limits,1 does not (ROOS_20140728_131230.stdf).
Instructions & Notes
- Unzip the attachment and install the JMP add-in. Running it will offer an exceedingly basic dialog box for either file or directory selection.
- A single file selection will result in one table and a visible report; a directory selection will result in a table for each file, each with a saved table script of similar report.
Final Thoughts
The add-in is intended for demo purposes, rather than distribution to regular users; a more robust offering has been initiated toward the latter. It is better utilized to encourage v18 upgrades and JMP-stickiness in the company’s workflow and to position what is possible within an organization. It can also offer one example of components related to setting up an add-in utilizing Python integration, if someone is wondering about specifics of creating their own.
Please report any challenges, thoughts, or suggestions otherwise as you like. Any errors, omissions, questions - please share as well. If you test it on another .stdf file and it breaks, I’d be happy to explore that file as part of the ‘more robust offering’ project mentioned above.
7/23/24 Edit: Revised to function for Mac users. Thanks Brad Norris and Josh Staunton for notification of error and testing fix.
