Welcome to the JMP Development Update for June 14, 2024!
We are still in JMP 18.1 Approval Mode and will reach 18.1 source code freeze on 6/28/24. This week, development managers approved extra time for 18.1 security fixes to third party libraries, extending the 18.1 security freeze date to 7/14/24. With security fixes of increasing importance to our customers and our new dot-dot releases added to shorten the timeframe for delivering them, we are working to optimize our dates so that we can deliver security fixes to customers about every two months.
We have now reached our code freeze for JMP 19 EA1. Test installers have been reviewed this week, and final installers will be built in the next few days and verified by QA teams prior to release. Just another reminder that the deadline for creating or updating feature pages and recording EA videos for JMP 19 EA1 and JMP Clinical 19 EA1 is at the end of the day on Tuesday, June 18.
If you have a feature you’d like to highlight in EA1, please create a new feature page using the New Feature Page template, and include anything you’d like to share with EA members (the most critical information is within the motivation and summary section of the template). If this is your first time creating a feature page, see this How-to for more information.
If you haven’t already recorded an EA video for your feature, now is a good time. Note that all videos (and other content) are also used to support internal technical training. Please see EA Video Guidelines or reach out to Mia Stephens with any questions.
Next week, Mia will present with Shannon C and Shannon L about the EA process and how it fits into the big picture of JMP releases. In addition to information about the JMP 19 EA process, we’ll cover details of the upcoming assignment of JMP project Story Jira issues into an EA1 sprint. Hope you can join us!

JMP Development Updates
Interactive HTML
- Sam Blashill: Working on developing interactive HTML pie charts for JMP Live. I have gotten the basic display working but have not tackled selection or labeling yet. Here is an example:
- John Powell:
- Measured and documented performance improvement results for bubble plot.
- Wrapped up our performance sprint and create a review of the team’s accomplishments during the sprint.
- Fixed a regression in parallel plot rendering caused by a performance improvement change(JMPHTML-13849).
- Investigated JavaScript exception that began when the treatment of points with not response variable changed in JMP (JMPHTML-13765).
- Started investigating the features of Scatterplot 3D to create requirements for implementing a subset of its features in Interactive HTML (JMPHTML-13491).
- Investigated the impact of removing “This feature is not interactive” tooltips from Interactive HTML web pages (JMPHTML-13846).
- Noticed that the perforce license for our build machine was about to expire, which was quickly resolved by Jim Borek (Thanks!).
- Updated our Jenkins build to send notifications to Sam Bashill since he will soon be committing code.
- Performed whitebox testing.
- Praveena: Fixed a short run control chart bug in exported HTML reports and reports published to JMP Live. Started to work on adding support for Triage assignee on tooltips. Looking into how to identify a control chart within a report is static and pass this information on to JMP Live. Did Whitebox testing today with the rest of the team.
- Paul Spychala: Fixed a bug where Treemap fill patterns were not showing up properly (JMPHTML-13739). Finished performance sprint for 19, and documented results of our changes. Gearing up for feature development for 19.0.
- Mike Stickles: Began work on implementing JMP Word Clouds in HTML (JMPHTML-13665). Did Whitebox Testing on Friday.
- Michael Senoyuit: Finished up performance analysis for shape segment, started learning about the local data filter, and whitebox testing.
JMP Live
- Aurora: 18.1: Answered some documentation questions. 19.0: Control chart warning improvements (support filtering posts by triage status, started work on assignment and annotation, met with SAS patent attorneys).
- Michael G: Continuing work on Control Chart Marker Triage. Had an initial meeting with patent lawyers over functionality. That is going smoothly.
Statistics
- John Sall: For Categorical, implement a "Highlight Cells" option to conditionally colorize cells in the crosstabs (JMP-21743), and implement "Force Labels Horizontal" to make it wrap, rather than rotate to fit (JMP-21721). I am ready to have three of my topics unveiled for EA1: Categorical, Profiler Simulator, and Response Screening (Subgroups and Sliced Means).
- Annie: Working on adding features for v19 to Control Chart Builder which were in the Legacy Control Charts. This week’s new feature is “Use Excluded Points on Moving Range Charts”.
- Laura C-S: Polishing details for MIIV-2SLS in SEM, including cleaning/organizing code, adding omega parameters to the path diagram, and finished enabling all other RTM options with the new estimator. Trying to make Relaunch work with the customized dialog.
Stat Documentation
- Hamid: Onboarding tasks for new hires and new hire orientation. Meetings with my manager Michael, team, and Laura CS to plan for the new features documentation. Learned new material related to my work. Updated statistical details for mediation analysis in SEM. Completed some older Jira tasks and updating and resolving them. Adding a Measurement Error Models example in SEM.

Life Sciences Updates
- Drew: Helped resolve a serious issue at Novo regarding changes they had made to their JMP Clinical installation. Added new capabilities to the Patient Profiler enabling the user to now view findings plots in 4 different ways: observed result, change from baseline, percent change from baseline, and percent of baseline. Added new capabilities to the Adverse Events Narrative report enabling the template writer to specify options in the template (as a comment) that can influence how the data preparation steps are handled when the report runs. This makes it much easier for different templates to get exactly what they need from the data.
- Meichen: Updated the causal treatment platform: added the GPS model for the continuous treatment case. Updated Sandwich estimator for SE for the IPW case. Submitted the manuscript collaborated with Laura CS and Russ: "Causal Inference for Observational Data in JMP Pro using Structural Equation Models, Propensity Scoring, and Machine Learning" to a journal.
- Anisa: Verifying remaining JMP Clinical 18.1 bugs and testing patient profile line representation scenarios and dates for accuracy.
- Tom: Continued to work on documenting new features in JMP Clinical 18.1 as well as closing out a bunch of JIRAs.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Happy 15th work anniversary to Mia Stephens! Dan Valente wrote a blog post commemorating the occasion here.
- Bryan F: Worked with Greg Kraus to update the JMP Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACR) for Mac and Windows which follow VPAT guidelines. Sarah Sylvestre and I presented data table findings from SE interviews and feedback forms as well usability studies. Continued to develop a unified theme for JMP that follows Vuetify guidelines. System/Host Testing-Cary
- Audrey: Playing with our current JMP 18 dates and trying to tighten up our end (of release) game. Playing with the new concept from Shannon C about a Security Freeze date that is separate from Development Code Freeze. Development Code Freeze would stay the same, but we would continue to allow time for security fixes until just before a Final Image Candidate is built. Our current goal is to deliver a security fix release every 60 days.

- Hunter: Installed and tested the latest SAS Download Manager 3.06 on two of our Mac configurations at the request of the SAS 9 deployment staff for their 24W25 release. Applied the new MacOS Sequoia Developer Beta 1 on the two host testing Macs in the lab and ran some tests with JMP 17.2, 18.1 and 19. Worked with Daniel Powell on an authorization issue where an expiration message was failing to appear at launch. Also followed up with Daniel and Bob Hickey sending crash info from the first test build of JMP Clinical 19 EA1 on Windows that was due to two incorrect WebView DLLs present in the install.
- Mandy: Working on Journal and Demo for Data table features for EA1 and tracked down a few crashes working with these features. Verifying JIRAs and writing some image tests, as well as JSL tests for the framework for Column groups and scripts, forced values and tags. Worked some on a workflow that an SE reached out about and found one bug with that one, but glad to help her as she is doing it for Discovery.
- Adnane: Fixed some issues and finished the localization of sample preset unit tests. Did some verifications in both windows and mac and added unit tests to some of them. Opened Jira tickets for sample data tables that need their URL references updated and found new sources for some of them. Polished the program that checks sample data tables' URL references, and added logic that checks if any of its errors are already known and have Jira tickets.
- Lisa: Worked on testing JMP-21713 which allows you to put more variables in graph builder drop zones. I also investigated a transform column mystery with Mandy when using Configure Levels in graph builder.
Web Testing – Cary
- Natalie: HTML test automation uncovered 2 bugs this week. The first was quickly resolved by development as it was blocking automation debugging efforts. After it was resolved, I discovered a second bug that is causing several automated tests to fail. Continued with new automated test development for control chart warnings.

I am making necessary updates to my S3 API module as needed, including refactoring of error handling and directory traversal code. I am going through code review comments to ensure that my changes are up to date with what the JMP source code is expecting to see inside of the script. Alongside this, I am making good progress on my SAS certification course, so if anyone has any tips for me about the course or the exam, feel free to reach out!
- John Schroedl: Spent quite a bit of time debugging metafile drawing issue related to Get Picture (JMP-21026). Starting to add more telemetry detail of main menu/toolbar usage (JMP-21628). Investigated auth issue in Clinical EA code. Discussions re: expectations of path variable behavior.
