Welcome to the JMP Development Update for May 31, 2024!
This week, JMP development managers and product management agreed to delay JMP 19 EA1 Code Freeze to 6/14/24 to permit the implementation of changes to EA authorization and installers. With JMP source code changes complete, and changes to EA installers ongoing, testing teams will look forward to a round of early installer testing to verify all the changes soon. Once code is frozen and candidate installers are generated and signed off, installers will be made available to EA program members in MyJMP. The installer validation process for an early EA typically takes about two weeks.
For the JMP 19 EA program, we’ll see a significant change: the program will be based on the user’s JMP license rather than determined by membership in the EA campaign in SalesForce. Essentially, any user with a JMP, JMP Pro, or JMP Clinical license will be able to install and authorize the appropriate EA version (JMP, JMP Pro, or JMP Clinical) - a formal invitation to join the EA program will no longer be required to permit authorization. Behind the scenes, JMP 19 EAs will now use the same Salesforce code path that is used when authorizing production versions. This will help us test production authorization more thoroughly earlier in the JMP 19 cycle. More specifics will be coming soon, but please let Mia Stephens know if you have any questions.
We are also moving quickly towards the beginning of JMP 18.1 Approval Mode on 6/4/24. As a reminder, you will still need a code review for any fixes that need approval for 18.1. If you have a critical fix that must be included in 18.1, please send a request to the JMP Approvers email list with the name of your reviewer and information on the proposed change, including a short description of the issue with Jira link and Swarm link (if applicable). Please be sure to comment on any expected impact of the change for testing. Thank you

- Evan: Analyzed telemetry data concerning Excel import and use. Integrating fixes back to v18.1. Working on a prototype to simplify copy/paste for columns.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Bug fixing and improvements to the converted sample size explorers. I also created a feature page for these and some improvements I made for the OC curves.
Hosting and Interfaces
- Will Morgan: Working on getting my AWS S3 Client Module built into a Python package to be integrated into JMP's python environment. This python package will hopefully be used with a JMP addin for the AWS S3 data connector. Going forward, I will be looking into the development required for creating a JMP addin and figuring out how the addin will interface with my AWS python package.
- John Schroedl: The Home Window on Windows has been given a bit of a visual refresh as part of my changes to remove our usage of the Telerik docking library (JMP-20282). Related to reducing our Telerik dependence, I will be replacing their spin control with my own which will also have a more modern look. Spending time keeping up with the flurry of announcement from Microsoft related to Copilot (their AI offering) and Windows on ARM. CIS is investigating the purchase of a machine with the new Snapdragon X Elite CPU and I will be starting the work needed to create an ARM native build of JMP. (JMP-21513). Helped folks debug various issues such as memory leaks, file issues and build questions.
- Paul N: Working on Python support:
- JMP-20811 – where running scoring code in JMP 18 script editor does not find jmp_score.py. Tested on macOS JMP 19. Will finish testing and get into 18.1 and 19.
- JMP-18386 – relocate Python dlls in Windows install. This also fixes case of _socket module not found when installing Python packages. Pushed to 19.0 and 18.1.
- Michael H: Changes to Mac build system to make our custom Build Phase scripts more maintainable, and also provide the information Xcode needs so it can determine when those scripts need to be run.
- Kristen: This week’s development was focused on implementing an OIDC authentication flow using myJMP within the JMP Marketplace test environment - JMPMRKT-94
Interactive HTML
- Praveena: Control Chart Triaging -
- Support for shapes based on triage status and identify row state change and disabled the Triage menu.

- Mike Stickles: Working on moving fill colors for bar segments into the XML Info section to improve performance (JMPHTML-2018); approximately 70% done.
- Sam Blashill: Learning a ton about the JMP codebase and have started getting my hands dirty with developing support for interactive pie charts in JMP Live.
JMP Live
- Aurora: 19.0: Control chart warning improvements (Clay Barker was kind enough to meet with us to talk through patentability, also I'm generating a summary of triage progress / urgency per report)
- Aaron: Finishing up support for using Python scripts for data updates on JMP Live. Working on Control Chart publishing issues.
Statistics
- Laura C-S: Continued the work on MIIV-2SLS in SEM including merging all the covariance matrices of estimates across equations into one large matrix for presentation in the report, added estimates into the path diagram (for intercepts/regressions/loadings only), added a scripting index example, investigating a bug for intercepts when using the estimator just for starting values, and cleaned all the code to get it ready to push to main (hopefully early next week!). Came up with 3 examples for the academic team so one-page guides can be created for SEM.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Reviewed Scripting Index and documentation updates for Colleen; prepared for Hamid starting full-time next week; participated in a managers’ focus group session with JMP HR.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Debugged the intermittent timing out on one machine by an Easy DOE unit test script with Jacob. Resolved it by splitting tests (>2200) into two test sets. Developing a prototype of a Bayesian Optimization platform with Chris. Refactoring the script to accommodate new features. Working on a concept for user information about the emphasis of a new run on exploration or exploitation. Answered questions in JMP Community.
- Jacob: Testing Categorical. Starting tests for new FDR extension (JMP-2012) and updating unit tests to account for recent changes. Investigating potential performance issues. Investigating a crash in a BLAS routine, found by Chris Gotwalt. Working on a unit test to reproduce the crash.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Adnane El Hachami: Engaged in some more JMP and JSL training. Finished working on my data visualization project and an initial version of the URL references collection project, which aims to facilitate and automate checking if URLs are still accessible and valid in sample data tables. I have also started working a little bit on my third project which aims to generalize some preset tests to more languages other than English. Another goal for this project is to make the tests more efficient; that way, they can become baseline tests. I have started learning about this and reading the code this afternoon.
- Mandy: Worked on grouping columns and scripts for the change Ernest made – found some JSL issues with ungroup – still in progress; discovered “forced values” as a column property (JMP-6518) and now there is a Feature page and I will add it to the EA 1 video I do for Data table. Column tagging is another one of those I am working on at 19, so there will be 4 things highlighted in the video. Working on a journal so I can click and show how to access each one and keep it to 5-6 minutes. Also worked on a data filter fix and an associated crash that will go into 18.1 as well.
- Audrey: Met with Legal to talk about a website for third party disclosures, a little intern planning, a little Atlassian Admin stuff, investigated unit test failures, removed Matlab and R tests from the JMP 19 framework; those tests may need to be rewritten using our Python integration.
- Mike M: A Sikuli test caught a regression for CCB By groups. Enhanced a few Sikuli tests to cover more interactive scenarios. Keeping up with image test diffs, Baseline failures and testing for a few verifications.
- Lisa: Worked on tweaking a failing unit test that both Mandy and Audrey reviewed. Also entered a bug where the preview in axis settings was not updating properly.

- Anna: Marker selection issues in HTML5. Beginning to check Parker's updates to improve Maps on desktop. Testing issues w/Group platform and Column Switcher, Dan has addressed and fixed the issue by restricting columns available to populate CS. Marketplace Capability Explorer add-in issue with Dark mode on Mac, reported DAD 17 issues in JMP 17 on Windows.

Note from Shannon
Thanks to Dan Valente who shared this interesting BBC article on the erratic answers provided by Google’s new AI overview search – a tool that you definitely do not want to use to get your recipes for weekend meals just yet…
Also, thanks to Josh LoPresti for sharing this item! Glad I do not have any attachments to share with the update this week… :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes: but I’ll think of this the next time I do!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
