PC Specs for Customers doing Machine LearningHi all,
this is probably something which has been discussed a few times and we might not be able to give a clear answer. Some previous postings already give good hints, for focusing technical upgrades, but I wondered if somebody wants to give it a try at recommending specifications for pc's/laptops.

Particularly I have a customer using FDE and ANN's, potentially intensifying also work with the Torch Addin. Her current specs are:

and she is looking to get a dedicated stationary PC or Laptop.
Appreciate your help as always!

Re: PC Specs for Customers doing Machine LearningHi Florian,
You provided details of the current situation regarding the tasks/plaforms but I don't see anything related to challenges she is experiencing with the current setup.
Can you elaborate on any shortcomings with the existing environment? The additional information might be helpful with suggestions for possible improvements.
Looking forward to your responses.
Re: PC Specs for Customers doing Machine LearningHi @Florian_Vogt , Recommend going for a Windows "machine learning PC" with one or two decent NVIDIA GPUs, e.g. see list at https://www.exxactcorp.com/category/Deep-Learning-NVIDIA-GPU-Workstations You want min 12 GB GPU RAM, and preferably 24 or 48 GB.
The nice thing nowadays is NVIDIA and PC vendors have a wide range of options and you can get a good machine to match nearly any budget.
For JMP in general CPU RAM is important, min 64 or 128 GB is advised for serious work on medium to large tables and even more if her tables are really big.
It's also possible to spin up instances in the cloud and some companies (like us!) are opting for virtual Windows servers with GPU passthrough that can serve a group of intermittent users.
Re: PC Specs for Customers doing Machine LearningTo add to this, a lot of gaming PCs will satisfy this spec. One thing that gets overlooked is cooling of the machine. Lots and lots of fans and a CPU and/or GPU radiator to help it all cool (relative, 80 C is typical top end recommended for long term usage of CPU/GPU).
Re: PC Specs for Customers doing Machine LearningThanks Stan, yes didn't mention that really. Long computation times, basically.
