JMP internships allow students the ability to explore a possible future career, network with professionals in the field, and gain valuable experience they wouldn't get in the classroom. Interns are a valuable resource to JMP as well, helping us invest in our future success by discovering new talent and potential leaders.
The 'Meet the Interns' series display features these bright individuals – their work, their hobbies, and more!
Sarah Musa
Sarah Musa is a Computer Science major at North Carolina State University. She is on the Product Management team as a Product Management Intern.
“Sarah will help with working toward the design and implementation of a refined wish list process; Wishlist 2.0, which aims to remove as many of the bottlenecks and friction around managing the wishes as we scale past our current 1000+ wishes per year.” Dan Valente, director of Product Management, says. “Sarah will partner with Sarah Sylvestre toward a yearly prioritization with customers, where users can spend a budget of points or “coins” on their favorite wishes. This prioritization work will help Product Management decide what will be pursued further based on the number of points it got, current initiatives, and discussions with R&D.”
The former and upcoming Executive Board of National Society of Black Engineers, which Sarah will be president of this upcoming school year!
With a family full of people in the STEM field, Sarah always knew she would be pursuing a technical career. However, this does not stop her from expressing her creative side through photography and traveling. When she travels, she fully immerses herself in the culture for the full experience. Her favorite place that she visited is London, where she enjoyed exploring the city. If she could, she would buy a world tour package to travel to as many countries as she could.
Sam Blashill
Sam Blashill is a Computer Science major at Michigan State University. He is an HTML Software Development Intern on the R&D Hosting, Interfaces, and Live team.
“Sam will be developing the web version of JMP’s interactive pie charts. He will use C++ to export the required information in an XML format to reproduce any report or dashboard including pie charts. He will write JavaScript code to read this information, draw the pie charts using the HTML5 Canvas API, and have them respond to user interaction on the web,” explains John Powell, Senior Manager of JMP Software Development. “With this added capability, JMP users are able to visually communicate information in a familiar format with anyone throughout their organization and externally without recipients needing to install JMP.”
Sam and another intern, Adnane.
As a kid, Sam wanted to be an ice cream truck driver. He is now hoping to make an undeniable impact on his team with his work in JavaScript and HTML. Besides his love for technical work, Sam enjoys going to the gym and cars (if he was able to, he would get a Honda type R!).
Bill Fisher
Bill Fisher is a Mathematical Sciences Ph.D. student at Clemson University. He is on the R&D team for DOE and Reliability working as a Research Statistician Software Development Intern. He is currently located in Clemson, South Carolina.
“Bill will be working on the theoretical and practical aspects of creating a choice design when you have previous information about respondents. In particular, he’s looking at how we can create a follow up experiment based on a previous usability study. We’re already looking into potential venues to present this work," said Ryan Lekivetz, Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics R&D.
Bill’s career prospects have taken him in a direction his younger self may not have imagined, having dreams of becoming an English teacher as a child. Bill is also proficient in speaking Mandarin! If he was to have an autobiography, the title would be “William Fisher: There and Back Again”.
