SCADA connection - PharmaTalk 2024

Hi There, 

I have a question as a follow-up from the PharmaTalk 2024 I attended last week - I think of a common interest in different industries.

Do you have any experience connecting JMP directly with SCADA? 

I was thinking that should work via ODBC, but I was wondering if there's any advice/use case that could be helpful to better understand the process.

Yes, that would be the right approach. While SCADA systems are often proprietary, they typically use standard databases like SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL for interoperability, making them compatible with ODBC. By setting up a DSN (Data Source Name) with the appropriate ODBC driver, which either comes bundled or is available from the vendor's website, can retrieve data from SCADA databases. This integration allows for real-time monitoring, trend analysis, and performance metrics evaluation within JMP. JMP Live can further enhance this capability by enabling users to share interactive visualizations and dashboards online, leading to collaborative analysis and decision-making.

Use cases: In the pharmaceutical industry, this integration is particularly useful for Process Analytical Technology (PAT) in continuous manufacturing scenarios. It facilitates real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and quality control by analyzing  data with JMP. This helps maintain process parameters within control limits, optimize processes, and ensure regulatory compliance through comprehensive reporting.

Caveat: Data retrieved via DSN is not  clean. Cleaning this data involves steps like: using filters and summary statistics to explore and identify anomalies, handling missing values through imputation or deletion, and addressing outliers and inconsistencies with JMP's data cleaning tools.
