FYI regarding widespread crashes with new Teams: Thanks to Mandy Chambers for sharing that the Teams crashes that many have been experiencing when working from home appear to be related to selecting option 1 or 2 to sign into the Cisco Secure Client. Using Teams without being connected to VPN or using Option 3 – Direct to SAS in the Cisco Secure Client can help avoid the crashes. Mandy is still working with SAS IT (and now Microsoft and Cisco support people) who are trying to figure out the root cause and when these issues started happening. Stay tuned…
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for April 26, 2024!
Now that we have passed JMP 18.1 Feature Freeze, please review any Story items that still have 18.1 in the Planned Version field and remove that version. When you do, if the item is still a priority for JMP 19.0, please make sure that 19.0 is in Planned Version. Thanks very much to Shannon Leslie for reaching out to developers to triage remaining 18.1 Story items this week! I also reached out to a few developers and testers to ask for help verifying the impact (or lack thereof) of 18.1 features on HTML/JMP Live reports.
As a reminder, we assess impact of JMP 18.1 features on a variety of groups (L10N, doc, testing, marketing, training, HTML/JMP Live) to make sure that the downstream teams that support feature development efforts have the information they need to plan their work. Speaking of which, a reminder that the JMP 18.1 Portable UI string deadline is Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Developers should rescue any stuck strings and resolve any other issues that Stringbot is complaining about by that date. After doc writers review the final set of extracted strings and make any necessary edits, we’ll have a final Stringbot run and hand off 18.1 strings for translation.
It's never too early to work on triaging bugs open in the 18.1 track! There are over 200 bug issues currently in Initiated and Developing status with Planned Version = 18.1. If there are items on the 18.1 list that are definitely not planned to be addressed there, please remove that version from Planned Version and reassign as needed to a later release.
We have now reached our JMP 18.0.1 Code Freeze milestone. Thanks to doc writer Susan Conaghan for working on a draft of the release notes for 18.0.1! JMP QA teams will begin vetting all the 18.0.1 product installers once final installer candidates are built early next week. This release will include third party library updates and resolutions to a handful of common crashes and numeric bugs.
As JMP 18.0 continues to roll out to more users, we will undoubtedly continue to receive new issue reports from technical support and find problems in testing 18.1 and 19 that are also present in 18.0. We will also continue security scans of 18.0, 18.0.1, 18.1 and 19.0 and prepare an 18.0.2 release track where security champions can make third party library updates (planned to release in mid-July). If you identify a non-security related showstopper bug that you believe cannot wait for 18.1 and should be included in 18.0.2, please follow the standard process of vetting the new fix in 19.0 (provided it is present there), then integrating the fix back to 18.1 for further verification. Once those steps are complete, please discuss the fix with your manager and request approvals if you agree that the issue is serious enough to merit inclusion in 18.0.2. Questions? Please reach out to Shannon Conners or Audrey Shull.
As we all know, it’s a JMP company goal for 2024 to use our own data to better understand our users, products and business. In the JMP Q2 Company Update this week, we heard more about the transition of JMP customers from SAS contracts to JMP UTOFs (tracked here in JMP Live). There is also now a Live dashboard tracking JMP 18 authorizations here. Finally, customers are opting in to sharing JMP 18 product usage telemetry as you can see in this summary graph in JMP Live. Developers and product management are already delving into the details of telemetry data to better understand customer usage patterns and inform our future development efforts.
At this week’s JMP dev meeting, JMP stat tester Tonya Mauldin shared links to JMP Live reports detailing another internal data source that we depend on during the development cycle – ServiceCloud cases and the connected Jira issues that capture beta user feedback. She compared case reports by version, information about issues reported, and shared her whole presentation in JMP Live here. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here. Thanks, Tonya, for triaging beta user feedback throughout our beta cycles and also thank you for helping field the many internal and external crash reports that feed the JMP crash system!
Finally, thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing this Jira Tip of the Week!
Although we mentioned it this last week, it’s worth mentioning again that Jirabot 3.0 is here and provides a self-service UI for editing Jira component ownership roles. (Thanks again to Myron Chandler and Melanie Drake for leading this effort!) Please update your bookmarks; the old HTML page listing component support roles still exists but is getting more and more out of date. From now on, you can visit the JiraBot 3.0 page directly to view the current set of role assignments.
