Since the launch of the new JMP Student Store in November, we’ve had over 6,700 successful downloads of JMP Student Subscription from 75 different countries to date. JMP Student is free for student and instructor classroom use and we have seen many new courses adopt it at colleges, universities and even high schools we haven’t worked with before.

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München founded in 1472 is the second-largest university in Germany in terms of student population (52,000). In 2022, a group of MScs from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology used STIPS to learn more about data analysis and experimental design in the formulation of biotech drugs. As a result of the followup where Paolo Chiappa identified the decision makers, and Volker Kraft provided technical tutorials, it convinced them to include a request for a JMP Academic Suite license in their fund application for a new multi-year research project. This project will focus on graduate research in peptide and protein drugs, colloidal drug carriers including targeting and gene delivery aspects, and parenteral process technologies. The application was approved in December 2023, and in February 2024 LMU finally purchased a JMP Academic Suite license. Local champions are also helping us spread the word about JMP in other departments to increase the number of academic users.

Technische Hochschule Augsburg offers courses in engineering, computer science, and natural sciences. Founded in 1971, it is the largest university in Bavarian Swabia region. JMP use began in 2020, when Prof. Torsten Strasser was contracted as a visiting professor at the university to teach statistics courses to engineering students. Strasser was then employed at the University of Tübingen, where he had used JMP for several years in his courses. For all these years, the academic team supported Prof. Strasser and his students with temporary licenses, workshops (both remote and onsite) and technical assistance. In 2023 Paolo Chiappa persuaded the economic buyers to release more funds for the purchase of the software, so that in March 2024 the University was able to purchase a JMP Academic Suite license and has already been made available to the approximately 7000 students.
AMERICAS:
JMP has long fostered JMP use in the Aerospace Systems Design Lab at Georgia Tech, and those efforts have now spread to the University of Michigan’s Department of Aerospace Engineering, one of the top five departments in the United States. Professor Gökçin Çınar, who first learned JMP as a Georgia Tech PhD student, now teaches with JMP at Michigan. This spring, she invited Ross Metusalem to deliver two guest lectures on DOE and optimization in a graduate-level aerospace systems course, and she plans to promote JMP in an upcoming department news story about the course. Prof. Çınar also uses JMP in her research, having recently published results (including JMP models and simulations) from a NASA-funded project on hybrid electric aircraft. Her story is yet another example of how fostering use at one organization can organically spread JMP to others.

With over 38,000 students California State University, Northridge is one of the largest universities in the state and Pany Allen reports that they acquired a campus-wide license for JMP Pro. The Dept. of Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management led their evaluation and will displace Minitab for JMP in multiple courses including Quality Control, DOE and Reliability. Kevin Potcner provided several online sessions leading up to their decision and will provide an in-person workshop later this month for faculty.
ASIA:
Birla Institute of Technology & Science, in Pilani, Rajasthan is ranked 3rd for Pharmacy and 25th in Engineering education in India. After Murali provided a series of workshops with the Pharmacy department, BITS Pilani onboarded the JMP Academic suite as part of their classroom usage for Quality by Design (QbD), Design of Experiments (DOE) and Pharma Analytics. Other departments including Chemical and Mechanical Sciences have also expressed interest and workshops are planned in the coming weeks.

JMP academic team delivered a Design of Experiments (DOE) for Biotechnology department of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal. The focus is to enhance the usage of JMP Student subscription among faculty members and influence them to incorporate JMP in their DOE and Biostatistics courses.
A challenge among Chinese students is learning to use the JMP interface and how to effectively apply its platforms to their data. After all, many of our learning resources such as the Learning Library and Case Studies are not translated. To address this need Clare Zhang designed a series of videos and Weihua Li recorded over 40 short, two-minute videos that provide essential instruction on using JMP and applying its platforms. The JMP Novice Introductory Tutorials provide immediate on-demand help to facilitate student learning with JMP and will help faculty more easily adopt JMP in their classrooms. To get the word out, JMP Marketing is helping to promote this new series on social media.
