SAS co-founder and JMP chief architect John Sall has been featured in a YouTube video series, Outstanding Huskies, from his alma mater Northern Illinois University (NIU). The five-and-a-half-minute video shares Sall's story, interviews with NIU staff, and the values of the university.
But the data trailblazer's story didn't start as you may think.
"I was a terrible student," Sall says in the opening seconds of the video. "I went to several schools, and it was not good." But he goes on to say that he realized he needed skills for the job market - and NIU provided that for him. He signed up for courses in math, statistics, computer science, economics, and geography. "It was a rocket ride ever since," he said.
And, as they say, the rest is history! You can read a little more about Sall's journey to JMP in this story about his 50th anniversary at SAS.
