During Discovery Summit Europe in Manchester this year, I had the pleasure of interviewing two advocates from Unilever's Home Care Process Development division: R&D Director Thorsten Schoeppner and Process Development Engineer Ewan Cook. While the stated purpose of this project was to create a video that can be used to promote analytics initiatives within Unilever, I've decided to create a longer-form company confidential version to share within JMP. I hope you will find it as interesting as I did.
In their interview, Thorsten and Ewan gave a comprehensive account of how they documented the business value of statistical approaches, secured executive support, and built a community of practice that redefined process development standards at Unilever. They shared examples of ROI, including "multimillion Euro savings," a new formulation that outperforms competitors, 10% material savings, and solving a problem that would have been impossible to solve without DOE in JMP.
