Welcome to the JMP Development Update for 29 March 2024!
Notes from Shannon C
For the first time, we are scheduling a “dot dot” release - JMP 18.0.1 – that will be available to customers approximately 2 months after 18.0 (mid-May). JMP 18.0.1 is building daily for Mac and Win and JSL unit tests are daily on both platforms. Due to the short timeframe for releasing 18.0.1, we only have about a month until we plan to freeze that track on April 26th.
Security champions, please be on the lookout for any remaining third-party library updates needed to address known Critical and High security vulnerabilities. And everyone should be on the lookout for potential showstopper issues reported in 18.0 that we may need to turn around more quickly than the 18.1 schedule allows.
What types of issues would JMP managers consider to be possible candidates for inclusion in 18.0.1?
- Widespread crashes
- Serious numeric issues
- Issues impacting deployment of JMP at important customer sites
All changes pushed to 18.0.1 need to be reviewed and approved by JMP Approvers per usual process. As a reminder, there will be no string changes and no doc changes made in 18.0.1. JMP 18.0.1 Help key requests are set up to fall back to the 18.0 Help. There will be a set of release notes for JMP 18.0.1 detailing all the fixes included.
Thanks to John Sall for presenting at this week's JMP Dev Meeting: Three S's - Switched, Sliced, and Sub-grouped for Response Screening. There were so many happy comments on the capabilities and the amazing performance it offers! If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here.

JMP Development Updates
Data Discovery
- Xan Gregg. RowStateAbility work and better supporting non-geographic background shape files
- Morgan Gribbins. This week I’ve been working on a new File Tree display box as well as some bug fixing for TextDisplay boxes and a crash in Script Editor.

DOE
- Caleb King. This week, I’ve been fixing some minor bugs related to the new Two Sample Paired Means explorer I added into JMP 19 (this one is a built-in rather than C++). I’ve also been working with Annie to make improvements to the OC Curve built-ins as well. Finally, I’ve been working with Sky on his dormouse and jaguar-puma identification projects.
Host
- John Schroedl. Helped with the SSO issue seen on Mac as well as separate SSO issue on Windows. Pass renamed ENABLE_AUTHORIZATION flag from build scripts through to compiler. This will allow build scripts to control authorization directly instead of relying on our retail build flag. Updated Excel Profiler projects to help them build on AWS machine. Worked with Evan to diagnose deadlock on exit after having used the Find dialog in a report. Install Checker source was not configured to auto-integrate for 18.1 so I fixed up the source there; binaries had been integrated. Thanks to Nick for updating main-19 integration to include source as well.
Interactive HTML
- John Powell.
- Converted RectSegment.js to a JavaScript Class(JMPHTML-13604).
- Working on converting MarkerSegment.js to a JavaScript Class(JMPHTML-13619).

- Mike Stickles. Completed work on JMPHTML-13617 (Refactoring packed bar segments to JS ES6 classes). Improved the fix for JMPHTML-13400 (color not used for interval bars with gradient color in legend) to include certain overlooked cases with side-by-side interval bars. Made substantial progress on JMPHTML-13616 (Refactoring bar segments to JS ES6 classes), should have it finished Monday or Tuesday.
- Paul Spychala. Still working with the HTML team in transitioning our codebase to use ES6 Classes and other refactoring tasks to improve our codebase.
- Michael Senoyuit. Refactored PolySegment, NumberBox, and GroupBox to ES6 Classes.

Stat Testing
- Tonya Mauldin. Gave a presentation about JMP Live to the statistical testing group. Preparing a presentation about V18 Early Adopter feedback for the JMP development group.
- Mark Bailey. I pursued 5 intermittent unit test failures on one machine (macSOMX) and determined it was not the machine but a new Xcode version and libraries. I fixed 2 of 5 failures. I am working on a new concept for the random coefficients feature in the simulation in the Data Entry step in Easy DOE. I presented an analysis of JMP Lab results from Manchester with Jacob to the UI/UX working group. I am studying Bayesian Optimization and Gaussian Process surrogate models.
- Jacob Rhyne. Investigated DOE unit test failures on an M1 Mac. Prepared a demo of publishing to JMP Live using JSL to Stat Testers and Writers. Analyzed Easy DOE usability study results from Discovery Europe and presented findings to UI/UX working group with Mark Bailey. Worked on adapting framework that re-runs failing performance tests to re-run and confirm failures in my failing unit tests
