Meet the Interns: Khawar Latif Khan
Manager: Qiana Eaglin (@Qiana_Eaglin)
Please help us welcome Khawar Khan (@khawarlatifkhan) a Year Round Technical Writer Intern on the JMP Documentation team. Khawar is a student at North Carolina State University.
“Khawar has a Master of Science in Technical Communication and is working on his PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media," Technical Writing Senior Manager Qiana Eaglin said. "We are fortunate to have him! During the next year, he will be helping my team write documentation for and address Jiras in the Discovering JMP and Using JMP books. He will also edit strings in the Scripting Index, to provide consistency and follow the UI string guidelines. As he learns more about our documentation set, I look forward to his thoughts and ideas on how we can modernize our offerings.”
Let's learn a little more about Khawar.
What made you want to intern at JMP?
The opportunity to work in an organization where documentation is valued is something that made me interested in JMP. In all the roles I've worked so far, I think I have not seen a documentation team so structured as it is here at JMP. Additionally, after learning a lot from the classrooms and academic projects, I believe I'm ready to put this knowledge into practice, and JMP is a great place to do that.

I wanted to be a lot of things as a kid. My favorite cricketer was Waqar Younis and I always wanted to play cricket professionally. I also wanted to become a "fighter pilot" at one point by joining the Air Force. I was also into reading and writing, so I wanted to write stories and be one of those people who write big books.
What's something most people don't know about you?
... that I write short stories and poetry, and the interesting thing is that I write stories in English and poetry in Urdu.
Of the places you've visited, what's your favorite?
There are so many... I love Chicago. I'd love to go back to Barcelona. I can never forget the sunsets of Venice. San Juan is a beautiful place.
What are you most excited about this internship?
To learn about documentation tools, such as FrameMaker, Oxygen, Perforce, and a lot more. Also, I'm looking forward to working in an environment where I can spend more time working on the docs than advocating for good documentation.
What do you hope to accomplish during this internship?
I want to write/edit quality documents that I can look back and feel proud about. I also want to develop good professional connections with people in the same and similar areas.
If you could splurge on one item and cost was no object, what would you buy?
Unlimited flights and travel packages so I can see the world.

(Trying to) Find My Way: Stories From The Road Less Travelled
What advice would you give prospective intern applicants?
My small advice would be to not give up. You will get a lot of disappointing news when you apply for internships but do not give up. I did not get the SAS internship on my first attempt. I tried to work on my resume and build my skills, to be better suited for this position. So, do not give up, keep trying, and you will get a great internship.
