What inspired this Wish List Request?
In Microbiome analysis, Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCoA) and other multivariate tools like Clustering and Embedding use a variety of distance metrics to evaluate, visualize, group multidimensional data. Currently PCA only allows correlation or covariate as options. Clustering uses Euclidean, and UMAP has a few options. In order to enable PCoA in PCA (and similar analyses that have options for distance metrics), we need to have an option to choose which distance metric (or dissimilarity measure) to use in these platforms in order to perform specific types of analyses for Microbiome analysis as well as other data sets similar to these types of data.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.
Enable a choice of distance metrics to be chosen for PCA, Clustering, and other types of multivariate analyses that allow a choice of distance metrics.
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
It would enable JMP the ability to analyze certain types of data that would not be able to be fully analyzed now using methods like PCoA
Is this an external customer request?
Yes, Barbara Mallmann from Adisseo is one customer during Discovery Summit Europe 2024 that requested this. P&G asked for this as well.
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of?
R, QIIME 2
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?
Adoption and expansion with this customer as well as others who have passed on JMP because the analysis was not possible,
