Last fall, JMP employees participated in a survey to collect data about the holistic employee experience including company direction, well-being, growth, meaningful work, and manager feedback.
The response rate was strong, with 423 employees participating (87% response rate). “I was really happy with the response rate and feedback we received with these survey results,” Human Resources (HR) Director Paul Mastropolo said. “We are glad to share a summary of the findings, which were very encouraging”.
JMP Net Promoter Score
JMP has an overall Net Promoter Score of 52.5 for the question “How likely are you to recommend JMP as a great workplace?”. Net Promoter Score is calculated by taking the % of Promoters (employees that responded with a 9 or 10) minus the % of Detractors (employees that responded with a 0-6). Overall, JMP had 63% Promoters and 10.5% Detractors leading to this result. While a 52.5 NPS is considered strong, we are committed to addressing areas of concern.

JMP Employee Survey Response Summary
We have also created a JMP Live Report for employees to see the average response and counts for all questions: JMP Employee Survey Response Summary.
Based on these quantitative results as well as an analysis of open-ended questions (e.g., “What do you enjoy most about JMP?”, “What do you like least about JMP”, and “Do you have any additional comments, or do you want to elaborate on any of your responses to the questions above?”), we have areas that employees felt were a strength to the overall business and their well-being and similarly what are viewed as concerns.
Areas of strength
- Great product with a purpose.
- Culture.
- The people, spirit of camaraderie/collaboration.
- Work-life balance.
- Flexible work environment.
- Recharge Days.
- Great customers.
Areas of opportunity
- Inflexible sales policies and unrealistic goals/targets.
- Lack of/late communication with changes to sales policies that impact customers.
- Uncertain future, lack of information about the IPO.
- Growing pains as we become more independent from SAS.
- Lack of advancement opportunities/limited career paths.
- Communication gaps between departments and siloed behaviors.
- Training/onboarding.
JMP Manager Feedback Results
Approximately one-third of the survey was comprised of questions asking employees to provide feedback on their managers. JMP has an overall Net Promoter Score of 60.9 for the question “How likely are you to recommend working under your manager’s leadership to a colleague?”. Overall, JMP had 72.1% Promoters and 11.2% Detractors leading to this result, which is also considered very strong.
Employees were asked to rate their direct managers on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) on a series of topics ranging from manager feedback and communication to goal setting and development.
In December, JMP HR shared anonymous results with all managers who had a minimum of three responses. Managers were provided a Managers Development Guide, which they could use to bolster their skills in low areas.
“Managers have such a strong impact on employee engagement," Mastropolo said. "It is the primary reason why the JMP HR team has started the focus on the Manager Feedback results.”
While results were very positive, in general, the lowest overall scores across JMP were “My manager works with me to set clear goals that guide my work” and “My manager gives me feedback that helps me achieve my goals.” This was one reason why goal-setting was such an important focus at the JMP Kickoff last month. JMP Manager Survey Response Summary
The feedback gained from the survey is already being used to influence the direction of the company and to build future programs. “We are continuously working with JMP leadership and the HR business teams regionally to uncover areas that we need to focus on as an organization to help grow and shape the company,” Mastropolo said.
