Sales teams report that they are getting questions from customers about JMP’s status as a subsidiary of SAS – and what that means exactly. If you get these kinds of questions, please refer to the following information to help you explain.
After more than 30 years as a division of SAS, JMP Statistical Discovery became a wholly owned SAS subsidiary in 2022. As a result, JMP has become a more autonomous business entity, while still receiving the same world-class support and stability as part of the SAS family of companies.
John Sall, SAS Executive Vice President and Co-Founder, as well as JMP’s creator, has added Chair of JMP LLC to his list of business titles. As he said when he announced the news in Q4 2021, “SAS has been a great incubator for more than 30 years. However, it’s time to leave the nest, because JMP is a successful, growing, profitable business that is ready to stand on its own.”
Customers may see some changes as they transition to new paperwork or adjust to new processes that are put in place, but they don’t need to worry about the important things changing:
- JMP will continue to develop and release new versions of the software every 18 months.
- John Sall will continue to lead R&D.
- JMP will continue to offer users the deep and wide support found in the Community and user groups.
- JMP sales teams will continue to listen to and work with users to show them how JMP can get them from data collection to discovery – painlessly and reliably.
- JMP will continue to offer its flagship Discovery Summit conferences, now in five countries every year, to connect JMP users, thinkers, and developers.
Yes, JMP is a new company. But it is in the unique position of being a 35-year-old startup that has the wealth of support and experience of SAS behind it, and with no plans to break away.
“We are excited about JMP in 2024," JMP CEO Jon Weisz said. "We are strong financially and we continue to build out our back-office functions to better serve our customers. JMP is so fortunate to have SAS as a parent company as we set up JMP systems and processes. This relationship has allowed us to stay focused on our customers, on our software, and on building a collaborative and innovative workplace. It’s business as usual in an unusual situation.”
