The final week of Discovery Summit Europe included a deep bench of paper presentations, deep conversations with JMP experts and the natural wonders of the deep ocean.
Deep wisdom from Craig Foster
Craig FosterCraig FosterNaturalist and filmmaker Craig Foster gave an awe-inspiring presentation about the benefits of connecting to the wildness of the world – the perfect talk to mark World Water Day 2022. Craig lives on False Bay in Cape Town, South Africa – the same place where, as a child, he learned to love the ocean and its creatures. He founded the Sea Change Project in 2012, to raise awareness of the Great African Seaforest and protect its marine life.
But he’s probably best-known for the Academy Award winning film My Octopus Teacher, of which he was subject, producer and photographer.
He shared two stories that have never been told before, which he hopes will be included in his upcoming book, Amphibious Soul.
“I was struck by the power of storytelling to educate and inspire us,” said session host Jordan Hiller (@Jordan_Hiller). “As Craig told those stories, I almost felt like I was in the water with him.
“I could not agree with Craig more – we all have a part to play in the protection of our natural world. Let’s use our talents and voices to effect change where we are.”

Deep conversations with analytics advocates
Meg Eberle (@Meg_Hermes) interviewed JMP advocates from M Ventures, W. L. Gore and Thermo Fisher Scientific about their ongoing efforts to build analytics capability. They shared how they’ve overcome objections, implemented training programs, built consensus around analytics best practices and leveraged statistical approaches like DOE to attract venture capital investment.
