Welcome to the JMP Development Update for November 12, 2021!
Thanks to everyone for the final round of 16.2 and EA4 fixes! We are working towards generating final installer candidates for 16.2 in about a week. JMP 17 EA4 is being tested and we hope to release it and notify customers of its availability early next week. Check out the Single Source Doc if you want to see features/functionality that product management is highlighting through the EA program, or if you’d like to watch an EA video. Note that this is a running log, so search for EA4 if you’d like to see what is being highlighted in the latest release. Mia and I would like to say a special thanks again for keeping your feature pages up to date!

Statistics
- Jianfeng: Working on adding a new feature of equivalence test for two proportions(JMP-8040). I am happy it starts working, but it will take some time to fully complete the project.
- Jeremy: Developed a Randomized SVD estimation method in PCA and Randomized SVD JSL Builtin. Working with John Schroedl to evaluate the BLAS and LAPACK libraries he recently pushed. These provide highly optimized matrix multiplication and linear algebra routines. I am writing wrappers that are similar to our current numeric routines and comparing both speed and accuracy. I am often seeing speed ups of 1 or even 2 orders of magnitude. I also provide some chemical spectra examples of wavelet functional DOE to Ryan. I worked with Emmanuel Romeu and a professor at Imperial College, who are putting together a paper on industrial data science with examples of MDMCC and extrapolation control.
- John Sall: Working on the launch dialog for PCA to layer the complexity with several new methods, after much discussion. Studying C++ std::thread, looking at a good example that Xan implemented in GroupRowStateAbility::init , after Meichen told me about OpenMP #pragmas.
- Laura C-S: Updating several helper functions in SEM that allow me to populate the “Status” Tab of the UI with warnings, model identification rules, etc. Met with Chris to resolve issues with function for loading presummarized data. Finished updating the “Compare Selected Models” functionality of the Model Comparison Table. Had lengthy (1.5 days) exchange with IT to figure out issues with my remote connection. Met with Ernest to give feedback on new features for lists, which can be used for workflow builder and other parts of JMP.
- Elizabeth: Presented a webinar on Mixed Models for the Academic Team that was well attended. Worked on a preference for Mixed to fit without threading as a result of discrepancies between machines reported by P&G (JMP-7756).
- Laura L: Did some work to get the Profiler Simulator to generate random uniform points whenever the profiler has linear constraints, including for mixtures.
- Peng: Continued making change to Repeated Measure Degradation where I see needed while testing the platform.
- Annie: Investigated avenues for re-architecting CCB for improving performance.
Stat Documentation
- Colleen: Wrapped up some scripting index edits and other string updates.Explore Missing Values tickets (Multivariate RPCA, as well as the re-addition of Multivariate SVD). Added Decision Threshold to various platforms. Work in what is now Manage Limits. Finished MM Suggestions spreadsheet from translation.

Updated some DataFilter classes to use shared_ptr<>. Fix for filters on subset tables, which initially showed all rows. Working on performance problem for scatterplot matrix and updates to session/JRP files.
DOE
- Caleb: Fixed some last minute bugs in the new Sample Size Explorer update for EA4, updated the Confluence page and recorded a video. Started work on a feature to allow users to specify custom nesting structures in MSA design (tentatively planned for EA5).
- Joseph: More work on Easy DOE. Worked on JSL support, fixed several model and design tab related bugs, and fixed other miscellaneous bugs. Also, working on analyze and predict tab infrastructure.
Host
- Paul N: Daniel and I have been getting a full 3-tier environment set up on AWS for Activation. We now have DEV, TEST, and PROD environments on AWS like we do on the SAS servers we have been using. The 3-tier environment lets us develop and test without breaking Production, and have a good feeling that Production will just work when updated, as the TEST environment is as close a mirror to Prod as we can make it while still having it be a different environment.
- John Schroedl: Pushed code to load and map OpenBLAS (Win) and Accelerate (Mac) entry points for portable access via blas(). Thanks to Jeremy Ash for his help on this effort. Diagnosing EA telemetry issue.
HTML5
- Josh M:
- Add additional image regression stream tests for Naive Bayes with informative missing on in support of JMP-8073, which I found last week and Elizabeth quickly fixed.
- JMPHTML-766 – Did additional testing and handed Naïve Bayes categorical profilers over to the testers for testing and possible inclusion in EA5.
- Triaged a few customer requested defects: JMPHTML-1083, JMPHTML-882
- JMP-3704: The exported/published HTML5 Boosted Tree profiler has incorrect curves (although a JMP bug, it was a change in the functions that export the profiler formulas).
- Add image regression tests for several categorical profiler JIRAs: JMPHTML-982, JMPHTML-1219 and JMPHTML-859.
- Testing and investigating JMPHTML-1219 which launched a bigger discussion of inconsistent behavior in the MATCH operator (see JMP-7579). For now, since it would affect so much code in JMP, it will likely not get changed in JMP for 17, so I am working to port the quirky behavior to JavaScript.
- Bryan F: Working on JMPHTML-1406 which is intended to support ordinary bar labels for packed bars. I helped Duane Hayes respond to customer support question about interactive HTML files that were not opening in users’ browsers. I recorded an EA4 video for interactive HTML packed bars and created an interactive HTML packed bars Confluence page.
- Praveena: Completed the JIRA Issue JMPHTML-1172, fix for the barbox plot height in tables. Started work on JMPHTML-1107, conditional table formatting - alpha issue.
- Mayowa: Worked on adding support for customized font size for pinned hover labels (JMPHTML-1131) and popup hover labels (JMPHTML-1138) in interactive html. Recorded EA video for parallel plot features in interactive html and JMP Live.
JMP Live
- Eric H: Reached a milestone on JMP Live this week with automatic data refresh – data with a refresh script was requested to refresh, the data was updated, and the report that depended on the data regenerated. Still much work to be done, but the basic mechanism is in place (if only on my machine at this point).
- Aurora: Another week spent on hierarchical folders. It's coming together nicely so far, although there's plenty more to do. Finished updating how we test publishing to a folder. Started work on a unified REST API endpoint for publishing post(s) to the root of a space or to a folder. Started work on a new REST API endpoint for adding a new empty folder (the "guts" are unchanged). Protected against self-referencing cycles in a folder hierarchy. Also dropped in on GraphQL summit a few times.
- Bryan F: I submitted fixes for WEBJMP-3822 which was a dark theme layering issue and WEBJMP-3410 which was an issue where extra space was shown under the JMP Live navigation bar.
- Josh M: Resolved WEBJMP-3949: Row States header cell appears over details overlay.
Note from Shannon
If you are looking for some motivation to get a few more steps in this weekend, my son Hunter and I have discovered Pikmin Bloom, a free step tracking game app. Pikmin has been one of our favorite Nintendo games for a while now so we’re enjoying taking the pikmin out on walks with us. The first Pikmin Bloom community day is tomorrow from 9 am-6 pm with special bonuses and prizes. It’s developed by Niantic (creators of Pokemon Go and other similar themed GPS games) in collaboration with Nintendo.
Whether you’re walking with the pikmin or not, have a great weekend!
