Purpose
The purpose of the demo is to provide a starting point for a customer meeting to demonstrate some of JMP’s basic control chart capabilities.

Questions Being Answered
- What types of common process data can be monitored over time in JMP?
- What characteristics can help detect special causes in a process over time?
- What options does JMP have for visualizing the impact of process changes on control charts?
What is the Story/Scenario
Since the data is being used to demonstrate control charts used for monitoring different types of processes over time, there are three datasets:
- The dataset used to create control charts for continuous data includes measurements data on the diameter of medical tubing, collected in two phases.
- The dataset for demonstrating P-charts tracks counts of defective items in an electrical component manufacturing process.
- Finally, the dataset used to demonstrate U-charts includes the number of defects per unit and number of units inspected.
JMP Features and Platforms
- Control chart builder or
- Control Chart > IMR Control Chart/XBar Control Chart/P Control Chart or Laney P’ Control Chart/U Control Chart
Discovery Call Preparation, What to Ask and Possible Pain Points to Look For
- Difficulty with control charts; calculating accurate limits for the selected chart & Excel formulas are error-prone
- Spending too much time creating control charts (JMP makes it easy to update control charts with new data, or automate the generation of control charts)
- Ability to detect and understand special causes in a process (tests for special causes help identify process changes, JMP provides an explanation of the rule that was violated via hover-help)
