Welcome to the JMP Development Update for January 12, 2024!
The JMP 19 branch has been getting quite a bit of traffic this week as developers push fixes and new features to the track. Here are some of the items resolved in the track so far. Thanks very much to those of you who tried out JMP 19 test installers this week for Mac and Win and verified JMP 19 fixes in the process! JMP DevOps team members been working through network and environment changes on the JMP 19 build machine with SAS IT.
In JMP 18 news, a few additional JMP 18 approvals were requested and granted this week in advance of our JMP 18.0 Code Freeze at the end of the day next Tuesday. When 18.0 freezes, the 18.1 and 18.0.1 branches will be created. JMP 18.1 will be open for maintenance pushes, while access to 18.0.1 will be restricted to security champions. 18.0.1 is planned to ship two months after the release of 18.0 to allow us to deliver security-related third party library fixes to customers.
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s Beta/Crash cases with crashes selected!

Submitted a purchase req request for localizing SharedTextInsets, DJ, and JMP Live Online Help to ES, FR, DE, IT, and JA. Processed translation returns for KO JMP Live Online Help, SharedTextInsets in ES, FR, IT, DE and JA. We also had a meeting with Doc team and Legal regarding updating the Data Disclaimer in UG and also adding it to JMP Live Online Help.

- ChrisB: JMP-13557 Recode variables. Some updates for universal Where(). Reviewing Python doc.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Worked on Python and R installs for my Mac and Windows machines, prepping for 18.0 installer testing and reviewing Kimi’s instructions. It proved to be helpful as I gave her feedback, and she was able to streamline the process. I had success once I did the new instructions for my Windows 10 and Sonoma Mac M2 with all the tests for R and Python, but then Hunter discovered late yesterday a Python crash that Paul is aware of for 18 related to pyarrow 12.0.2 running on Apple M1 processors. Took a sneak peek at 19.0 test installers on both Mac and Windows, and things looked good throughout my testing. Started a bit of testing and verification for JMP 19 fixes. Once testware auto-integration is off for 18, will write some new JMP 19 JSL UTs. Reviewing Telemetry data for Tabulate and Workflow Builder using Evan’s add-in and using it for JMP testing. Attended the kickoff too. Great information! Exciting new year!
- Hunter: Worked with Paul N. testing various Mac configurations to isolate a crash using the pyarrow 12.0.2 package exclusive on my M1 Mac with Big Sur, sent screenshots to Daniel of several authorization items encountered, investigated one JMP 18 EA 7 track, checked MATLAB connections on Macs, and JIRA verifications.
- Mike M: Caught up on image diffs for 19.0. Still waiting for 18.0/19.0 test code branching next week to clean up the failing Baselines. Opened a few Jiras based on image diffs (log scaled axis, HTML scientific format, Column Mgr misc). Verified a few Jiras, even a 17.2 L10N one.
- Nick H: Made some changes to make our unit test for path variables, allowing to be used for Clinical installations. Also making a big push to finish up 18.0 verifications adding unit tests where needed.
- Audrey: Assisting with interviews for Shannon’s Program Manager position, Jira admin stuff, fighting with AWS machines (I think I won, but only time will tell).
Web Testing – Cary
- Josh L: Getting ready for Natalie Horton to start January 16th. JMP Live and MSAD multi forest discussions with development. Helping with machine issues related to Beyond Trust and Azure AD. Finishing Q4 discussions with the team.
- Anna: Verifying fixes for LDF, HTML5 and JMP Live. Experimenting with Xan’s fix for JMP-19235 user reported issue w/charts w/overlay and LDF. Revisiting above fix to test issues Tonya uncovered with CCB. Getting up to speed on CCB warnings testing needed for JMP Live.
System/Host Testing-Beijing

Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Continued work to finalize stat documentation in preparation for doc freeze on Jan 18; reviewed updates in SEM for Hamid; worked with Karen to get Standard Least Squares examples updated; sent Fatigue Models chapter out for final review.
- Karen: Worked with the stats writers on the last bits of documentation for 18.0 and handed off my two books (DOE and CR) to the doc team for all they do to generate the final help files.

I created an AWS Appstream Instance for performing user tests of the AI Assistant that was developed last year and evaluated an initial user testing script. Sent out invites for a UX book club that Julian and are planning to do with his group of developers. Working on a template to use during customer visits based on a concept known as contextual inquiry.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Duane: First, Christine and Corrado with the Engagement team as well as Arn with Tech Support attended and ‘graduated’ from the JMP Academy this week. I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback on the sessions. Kudos to Peter for running the program! I enjoyed the information presented in the Company Kickoff and am anticipating another exciting year. Cases for Support (Technical and Engagement) are on the increase. Licensing and 2024 renewal questions are coming in as JMP contracts begin replacing SAS contracts for our legacy customers. I expect the number of these cases to continue to increase. As normal, here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

Note from Shannon
In the US, we are celebrating MLK Day with a day off on Monday. I hope that as JMP observes this day, you will take some time to consider the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Have a great weekend!
