Some words don’t need translation. “Data” and “Python,” for instance, sound the same in English as they do in Korean. So do “JMP” and “Hynix.” Those words were uttered frequently at Discovery Summit Korea on 14 November, where more than 200 JMP enthusiasts – many from the semi-conductor giant SK Hynix -- gathered in the heart of Seoul.
Daweoong Ahn, Vice President of SK HynixAnd some sentiments don’t need a translator to be easily conveyed. Excitement was in the air for the first in-person Discovery Summit Korea. JMP Korea Country Manager ChulHee Min and JMP User Enablement Director Jeff Perkinson set the tone for the day when ChulHee asked Jeff what four words best describe the JMP community. The answer, of course, was, “Share, ask, learn, connect.” And that’s what they encouraged attendees to do at the event, in the JMP Community, and beyond.
A similar theme ran through plenary talks and breakouts, JMP-presented sessions and user-driven content. Daweoong Ahn, Vice President of SK Hynix, spoke on the importance of embracing data and building a culture of analytics.
JMP’s Aurora Tiffany-Davis drove that idea home with this question: “Are my insights valuable if I can’t share them with people?”
Through simultaneous translation from English to Korean, members of JMP R&D asked probing questions and shared insights with JMP users from across Korea. And, like all Discovery Summits, user best practices took center stage during breakout sessions.
The enthusiastic turn-out demonstrated significant demand for in-person learning in Korean, which means that the November 2023 Discovery will probably be the first of many.
