JMP has recently added a new tool to our workbench: Orbiit AI. Orbiit is an AI-powered professional matchmaking engine that enables us to effortlessly connect JMP users and advocates for 1-on-1 and small-group conversations based on common interests and challenges.
Our first official use of the tool was at last month's Discovery Summit Americas, where we offered both virtual and in-person attendees the opportunity to receive a personalized introduction during the conference.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with one participant, epidemiologist Elaine Daniloff, writing: "I recommend adding this feature at all Discovery Summits." We couldn't agree more, Elaine! That's why we are sharing some of our learnings here; with the goal of offering JMP users around the world similar opportunities to connect, broaden their professional networks, and share their love of our software!
Here's how it worked:
- All Discovery Summit registrants received an email the week before the conference. In it, they were asked to fill out a short questionnaire designed to gather the information that was used to match them, including role, industry, number of years they have used JMP, and the topic(s) they were most interested in discussing. They were also asked to select a time (or multiple times) during the conference when they would be available to meet.
- On the day before the Summit, anyone who completed the questionnaire received an introduction, via email, to their "match." The email also contained a calendar invite with the time/date of their meeting.
- At the appointed time, virtual participants joined their meeting via the Orbiit platform (similar to Zoom). In-person Discovery Summit participants gathered at a sign marking the "Networking Spot" within the conference venue.
- Conversations ensued.
- The week after the conference, we sent participants a survey asking for feedback.
One of the great things about Orbiit AI is that we, the organizers, are allowed to create our own matching criteria and matching logic. For the purposes of Discovery Summit, for example, we matched the most experienced JMP users (some of our strongest advocates) with those who were new to JMP -- or not yet using JMP.
In the meeting invite, we provided participants with an optional conversation guide, walking them through introductions, ice-breakers, and some helpful prompts to get the conversation started (e.g., "What is the biggest data challenge you're facing right now?" or "Discuss a recent JMP project or accomplishment you're proud of.").
The feedback we received from both virtual and in-person matching rounds was very positive. Here's a sample:
An overview of those who participated:
Future uses of Orbiit AI are not limited to Discovery Summits alone. Our annual enterprise license provides for an unlimited number of matching campaigns. We therefore see a number of great potential uses of the tool as a way to connect advocates, users -- and even prospects or student JMP users -- including:
- In-person Discovery Summits in all regions.
- Virtual Discovery Summits in all regions.
- Culture of analytics (advocate journey) virtual group.
- Users groups.
- Academic/industry connections.
- Lead generation/pipeline.
- Reference selling.

Use cases for Orbiit don't stop there. In 2024, we will also be using the tool for internal connections within JMP, including:
- Kick-Off.
- Midyear meetings.
- Mentorship.
- Employee affinity groups.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
- Sales best practices.
