File size limitations relative to RAMAt one time, the recommendation was that files less than 1/2 available RAM were safely accessible. I recently (on a Mac) opened a file that was 148GB (the On Time data that @julian used at Discovery without the weather data) with less than 32 GB of available memory. I must have missed something regarding file compression. How is this happening and do we have a new file size recommendation?
Re: File size limitations relative to RAMThis question comes up a lot so I decided to do my own testing, running different analysis in JMP with a large dataset. My observation is JMP can get up to 10x RAM usage based on the data table size, but can vary from 2-10x depending on the specific platforms used. So I feel 10x the data table size is a more conservative guidance for free RAM requirement.
