Learning JMP when one first learns statistics can form a connection that lasts a lifetime. The JMP Academic team develops JMP users while they are students so that as they begin their careers, JMP is already their preferred tool for making powerful discoveries from data.
JMP is not only no-code and easy to use, allowing instructors to teach statistics instead of software, but it also is an ideal tool for the modern, data-driven pedagogical approaches becoming widespread in academia. Yet academia is very cost-conscious, and the growth of free and open-source competitors has made it difficult for some universities to justify the expense of JMP. This has been a barrier to spreading the use and impact of JMP in statistics education.
But now we have the solution: free JMP for students and instructors. JMP Statistical Discovery is announcing the relaunch of JMP Student Subscription (“JMP Student”) at www.jmp.com/student and available through the new JMP Student Store. JMP Student is a free 12-month license for standard JMP, featuring all the analytics and graphics required in most introductory and intermediate statistics courses and enhanced with a Student menu featuring learning applets, calculators, and resources designed for students who are not just learning JMP, but statistics as well.
JMP Student is free to verified students and their instructors across the globe (excluding China, Japan, and a few countries we cannot export to). To qualify, students must be enrolled at, and their instructors must be employed by, a degree-granting university. Eligibility is verified through existing university SSO systems, with the verification process integrated into the new JMP Student Store for seamless access. High school students may also access JMP Student.
The JMP Academic team still maintains and will continue to expand on its hundreds of paid licenses. Termed the JMP Academic Suite, the paid university license includes JMP Pro for all faculty and students and allows research use, presentation virtualization, and installation in university computer labs. The Academic Suite remains the best option for most universities.
But for the many universities where cost is the deciding factor, the new free JMP Student license will remove that final barrier to spreading the use and impact of JMP in statistics education.
