Please note, the following sample data are scheduled to be removed from the JMP sample data library the week of Oct. 30: Crime.jmp, CrimeData.jmp, DotPlot.jsl, and Reactor Augment Design.jmp. An alternative table for Crime.jmp is State Capitals.jmp. See JMP-14340 for more details. The SATByYear.jmp table can be used in place of CrimeData.jmp. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact @Qiana Eaglin.
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for October 27, 2023!
Thanks to everyone involved in the recent rounds of testing and fixes as we have prepared JMP Pro 18 EA6 Mac and Windows installers for customers! EA6 represents our first customer beta test for the new JMP 18 authorization mechanism. Testers and developers are eagerly awaiting feedback from customers as they begin to try it out starting today. Testing is still ongoing for Windows and Mac JMP Clinical 18 EA installers; once signed off, Clinical will be made available to customers as well with authorization enabled.
Internally, many of you have already tested JMP Pro EA6 or tried the new nightly JMP 18 Windows installer that use authorization. Thanks very much for your continued testing and bug reports! To any JMP staff - if you try out an authorized installer and you have issues authorizing with your jmp.com email address, please report the details of your issue to jmpbeta@jmp.com. Thank you!
Please note that if you encounter issues with either EA6 or the new authorized Windows installer, you have a few fallback options to get JMP installed without authorization active. A non-authorized Windows installer is still available for internal installation use only. Alternatively, if you have a Mac, you can use the Mac nightly installer where authorization is not yet enabled. While the long-term goal is to eliminate internal no-authorization builds/installers, having these alternatives available is helpful during the initial testing and transition period.
Speaking of authorization, in the dev meeting yesterday, I shared this related announcement about changes in our final dates for JMP 18. The authorization transition is a complex effort involving integration between JMP code, Salesforce settings, and MyJMP interfaces. It also impacts multiple JMP products – JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical and JMP Live. Many people have a hand in making this transition happen successfully, including several internal development and testing teams as well as external CloudGiants consultants.
Therefore, JMP development and product managers have decided to make the following adjustments to JMP 18 development milestones to permit more time for these combined efforts (and other critical 18 projects) to be completed:
- Return to the original date of 12/20/23 for creating the JMP 19 branch and halting auto-integration from main to 18. Early branching for 19 is not going to be possible this cycle. Some developers who were interested in working on 19 features early have created feature branches in Perforce. Others may want to consider this option if you have currently JMP 19 work saved in shelves.
- Extend JMP 18 Code Freeze to 1/16/24 to permit extra time for authorization fixes, critical showstopper bug fixes, and finalizing the select few agreed upon items still in progress and represented on the Late Features page.
- Extend creation of the JMP 18.1 branch to 1/16/24.
- Extend JMP 18 Doc Freeze to 1/18/24 to permit more time for finalizing content about late changes.
DevOps teams will be preparing for these release transitions well in advance of the branching dates. Please stay tuned!
Thanks very much to the JMP doc team – Qiana Eaglin, Chris Barrett, Devon Powell and Susan Conaghan – for presenting at yesterday’s JMP Dev meeting on changes to the JMP Help menu made in JMP 18 as well as the Tips of the Day à Quick Start transition and ongoing process changes for sharing new features with customers. If you missed the meeting, you can see a recording here.

JMP Development Updates
Host
- Paul N: Finished implementation of slice operator. Starting on work to update Python from 3.11.5 to 3.11.6 on macOS. Meeting with Bryan Boone, Chris Hesser, Neal Siekierski, and Tom Weber from SAS on using SASpy to be able to connect to SAS Servers 9.4, CAS and Viya through SAS’s SASpy import module. Additional meeting with Tom Weber to understand implementation details on how his proc Python allows both batch mode Python submissions and Python’s interactive console. Support of the interactive console in a future JMP version would allow use of Python’s pdb debugger on scripts. Also marking strings for Stringbot, Documentation, cleanup and review. Updated libcurl from 8.1.2 to 8.4.0 released 11 Oct, which fixes 3 CVE’s at least one is High severity.
- Michael H: Helping with software authorization installer issues. Working on side-by-side JMP installations. Working on splitting the Mac JMP executable into separate dylibs.
- Daniel Powell: JMP Pro 18 EA is live, so I’m staying available to triage any issues and then next week we start a new sprint for EA7!
Interactive HTML

Statistics
- John Sall: In Nonlinear, fixed bug that patches formulas for Table Variables for By Groups (JMP-13749). In Fit Response Screening diagnose singularities better (JMP-17451). In Categorical, fix isColumnInvolved to respond to data changes (JMP-18474). In Hierarchical Clustering update "Data Formula" combobox from script (JMP-17258).
- Laura C-S: Finished preparing and gave the presentation at U. Iberoamericana, which went well. Six professors asked for JMP Pro trial licenses afterwards! Found a couple crashes while doing analyses with the annual survey data and fixed one of them. I’m investigating the other one.
- Annie: Collected my notes from Discovery, entered Jira issues and added them to the Collected Notes Discovery Confluence page. Worked on fixing issues with Short Run Control Charts.

- Mark: Analyzing results from two usability studies conducted in the JMP Lab at the JMP Discovery Summit with Jacob. Closing tickets for Easy DOE and updating unit test scripts.
Life Sciences Updates
- Wenjun: Attended the CDISC Interchange board meeting and conference last week in Falls Church VA. I hosted a joint workshop with CDISC colleagues in the conference demonstrating how drug safety can be evaluated by JMP® Clinical, following the FDA New Drug Application (NDA) and Clinical Review (CR) templates. The attendees were very impressed what JMP Clinical can do and followed up with many enthusiastic questions and emails after the workshop. The workshop was featured by CDISC official LinkedIn site https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7120798726230593536/. I was also invited to step in to give a presentation in the CDISC Advisory Council (CAC) two days before the CAC meeting as the original guest speaker could not come. CDISC has a tradition of hosting a gathering for two representatives from each platinum member and invites a guest to give a talk. I shared some experiences we had with FDA and NIH in a talk titled FDA and NIH Initiatives: FMQ, Omics and AI. The audience was quite interested, especially the chair of the ISO genomics committee who followed up with questions and an invitation to the ISO conference.
Product Management and Product Marketing
Technical Support
- Duane: Another busy week in support. We continue to work with the JMP Store team, with JMP Student Subscriptions going live and being tested this week. Wendy and I met with SAS Licensing to learn more about their process for requests for Site Rep changes. JMP will need to implement a similar process for such requests as we transition more of our customers to JMP contracts. And as usual, here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

Note from Shannon
For those of us in NC, it feels a bit hot right now for fall, so you may be thinking similar things to this comic – I know I am! But I hear a cold front may be coming…
Hope you all have a great weekend!
