Troy´s Ideas for 2024High Level Suggestion.
Note, It is best to leverage work which we have collectively done in our daily work routines – so lees effort required in generating content. I added a few suggestions below but for a lot of this I do not have anything ‘ready to go’, which would mean a bigger overhead for me (and I guess the others). Anyway, this is just my input. Once everyone adds their feedback we can review next month and reduce it down to what is achievable given the resources we have.
Also, there could be a lot of overlap here between Case Studies, Tips & Tricks and Scripting Platforms……we would need to make sure to have a wide ‘spread’ of categories so as not to repeat ourselves from month to month.
3x Case Study Sessions
- 2-4 Topics each selected either by one of us, by a user or taken from the user community.
- We could recreate the problem and go through the solution using a jmp session….and elaborate on it if necessary.
- Topics for each session should be related.
- Stuff I could present
- How I implement standardisation & best practices
- Adding graphical Elements to Datatables (putting a wafermap image into a table)
- Graph Builder (everyone loves Graph Builder sessions :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:)
3x Scripting Platforms Sessions (1-2x examples per session)
- One could be a hypothetical Discussion (this probably will not work) and the other could be a practical demonstration
- Stuff I could present (I already have some code, just need to scrub for IP and modify it a little)
- Fit Y*X + ANOM to identify statistically significant ‘outliers’
- Boot Strap Forest (anything related to ML will be popular)
- Drawing interactive visualisations (Wafermaps in my case)
3x Tips & Tricks Sessions
2-4 Topics per sessions and again we could try to keep the topics related
- General Scripting
- Time
- Work with Tables
- Working with Platforms
- Working with Directories
- Layout of out a GUI
- Interacting with Windows O/S and users
1x Session on building an Add-in (we could do 1-2 examples)
1x Session on scheduling Jobs (using windows task scheduler for example) with some best practice discussion for managing incoming data
1x Meet the Expert Session.
- Bring 3-4 ‘Experts’ and let them talk for 15mins on their experiences, what works, what does not, getting started, promoting and building skills in a group.#
- I would like to see the perspective differences between JMP Experts and User Experts (perhaps 2 JMP folks and 2x Users) with 12mins each.
Re: Scripters Club Ideas for 2024Jarmo:
I can also basically present “anything” but I would rather present something which has pull than try to push it. Some of the topics I think could have quite large spot somewhere are:
- Navigating report layer
- Expressions
- String manipulation
- Working with dates
- Let JMP Script for you (I’m writing a JMP blog post about this when I have. Title will be something like “Going from Let JMP Script for You to Scripting with JMP”).
- Debugging scripts
- Making big problems small problems (so don’t try to fix your 1000 lines of code when the issue is in 10 lines of code, fix those 10 first).
And as my discovery summit submission wasn’t accepted as paper I could also maybe have not that “official” presentation about that in Scripters Club “Mastering the Art of Scripting Seamless JMP-Like User Interfaces with Structured JSL” (ChatGPT might have “helped” me with the title). I have presented something a bit like this in Finnish Users Group.
As we can see there are A LOT of different things we can have and present :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

Re: Scripters Club Ideas for 2024Georg:
Dear all,
Jarmo and Troy,
I like your ideas/suggestions very much, thanks,
as well having them presented in Scripters Club as being excited for my own to hear what you did.
I myself have not that structured material for training prepared,
but I would also be able to present some smaller projects that help making daily work easier – and that’s what JSL is basically made for (in my case).
So I like small and efficient hacks more than big projects/applications :-), the reason may be as well that I’m not a full time programmer.
Some may be:
- pulling data from database, using flexible queries, performing performance studies
- least complex self updating Add-In
- smart use of efficient data structures for a GUI and following tasks
- scanning folder structures and save summary in a table
- …
I would as well like to see the new embedded python environment (but could not yet
They are all not big projects, but more scripts for performing certain tasks.
Best regards,
Georg
