This is an on-demand seminar where you can learn about "custom planning," which is a plan unique to JMP. Intended for beginners in experimental design.
- The video consists of three chapters (Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3), and each chapter is divided into several sections.
- Chapter 1 is the second part of "Overview of Experimental Design for Beginners and Examples Using JMP (Total of 3 Parts)" held in October 2023. This is an on-demand version of the re-edited recording of "Usage Example (held on October 12th)". (Some content from the actual seminar has been omitted.)
- Chapter 2 deals with "extension plans" related to custom plans, and Chapter 3 deals with "mixture plans" using custom plans. These two chapters were created for on-demand use.
*You can download the seminar handouts (PDF) on this page.
*This on-demand seminar uses "JMP 17.2," the latest version at the time of video creation (October 2023).
Chapter 1: Overview and usage examples of "Custom Plan"
In JMP, there is a design creation method called "Custom Design" that is recommended for those who are new to experimental design. In this seminar, we will provide an overview of this design and a series of steps to implement the design of experiments method. Interpret the results from the analysis report through examples of screening designs and optimal designs.

Section1 : “What is a custom plan?” (8 minutes 16 seconds)
Section2 : Creating an experimental plan using "Custom Design" (9 minutes 25 seconds)
Section3 : Viewing and interpreting analysis reports (17 minutes 32 seconds)
Section4 : Example of optimization plan (7 minutes 33 seconds)

Chapter 2: Overview and usage examples of “Expansion Plan”
Using "Extension Plan", you can add experiments to an existing experiment plan and use it for the following purposes.
- Since the number of experiments that have already been conducted is small and the effect of the factor cannot be detected, additional experiments will be performed.
- Extend screening experiments already performed and create response surface models
- Extend experiments conducted without a design of experiments to detect the effects of factors
Section1 : Overview of “Expansion Plan” (6 minutes 15 seconds)
Section2 : Example of using "Expansion Plan" (14 minutes 4 seconds)
A “mixture design” is a plan that uses the ingredients of the mixture as a factor. Since factors deal with proportions of mixtures, they have the following restrictions:
- The possible range of factors is 0 to 1 (0% to 100%)
- The sum of the proportions of all factors is 1 (100%)
In JMP, you can perform a combination design using "Custom Design," and you can also create an experimental design by mixing continuous factors, categorical factors, and combination factors.
Section1 : Overview of "Bixture Planning" (3 minutes 51 seconds)
Section2 : Example 1: Optimization using 3 combination factors (12 minutes 3 seconds)
Section3 : Example 2: Screening when combination factors, continuous factors, and categorical factors are mixed (8 minutes 8 seconds)
