Recommendations for Python Programming CourseLooking for recommendations for a good online Python programming intro course. Asking for a friend.
Re: Recommendations for Python Programming CourseSomeone new to programming? If not, how experienced?
Re: Recommendations for Python Programming CourseSomeone relatively new to programming.
Re: Recommendations for Python Programming CourseDatacamp's python courses are a good choice. They have a mix of theory and lab exercises with a good feedback mechanism. They also have knowledge checks, exams, and certification options (i.e. an 18mo course in Python & SQL focusing on data science). They do cost money, but if the person keeps an eye out, they run a special every few months for a 50% discount on an all-you-can-eat yearly subscription.
I've heard similar good things about CodeAcademy.
They could also check Coursera, I believe a number of universities have put their intro to python courses up there. And a number of universities offer no-experience bootcamps in python, too.
Re: Recommendations for Python Programming CourseThey can take a look at the general programming course at The Great Courses, which is taught using Python. I though the material was very good, maybe a bit fast for folks new to programming. In general, The Great Courses does a decent job with the bulk of their materials. The majority are taught by university professors and the reviews tend to be spot on. I have purchased quite a few and have been happy with them. They shouldn't pay more than $60, the courses always on sale.
Re: Recommendations for Python Programming CourseAlso, many local libraries have content from the Great Courses, so the cost could potentially be $0.
Re: Recommendations for Python Programming CourseI tried teaching myself Python a while ago by following this 4-hour tutorial on Youtube. I learned enough to be able to write the following code that uses Lewis Carrol's algorithm to calculate the day of the week (attached).
