Welcome to the JMP Development Update for September 15, 2023!
JMP 17.2 full installers are due to be released by SAS around the middle of next week! The doc team has published the JMP Help in Japanese for testing and is working towards finalizing the Help in Simplified Chinese as well. This is the first time localized JMP Help has been produced completely by the team here in Cary, and I appreciate all the work they did to make this happen! Tech support has been receiving crash and bug reports from customers who are already using 17.2 and working with development to diagnose issues and track them in Jira. Updaters have been available for a few weeks on support.sas.com and international customers can now get 17.2 in the online store.
We are heading towards JMP 18.0 EA6 freeze on 10/03/23. As usual, if you’re working on late features, please keep your section on the JMP 18 Late Features page and associated Jira issues up to date to help downstream teams track your progress. If you have updates to share with EA6 customers, please update the Motivation and Summary sections of your individual feature pages.
I have entered JMP 19 branching-related issues for my team under the JMPTOOL-951 epic. The new branch is planned to be open right around the time we reach our Code Review period near the end of JMP 18.0 (11/8/23). Please feel free to link other Jira issues tracking branching-related projects to JMPTOOL-951 by specifying this issueID in the Epic Link field in child issues you want to add.
Thanks very much to Paul Nelson for offering to present progress on JMP 18 Python changes made since his last demo in the spring. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here. Customers using the current JMP Python integration will doubtless appreciate the many improvements coming along soon! Paul and tester Kimi(Yu) Wang have been hard at work polishing this new functionality in preparation for the next iteration in EA6.
We have numerous other dev meetings on the schedule for the coming months. If you want to present at a future session, please sign up on the JMP Dev Volunteer page in Confluence. I noticed some new future speakers added their names during the last meeting, so thanks very much!
Tonya Mauldin continues to coordinate the distribution and response to beta tracks and shares this week’s beta/crash report case details below:

Beta/Crash report for the week of 9/15/23 | JMP Live (sas.com)
And finally, thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing this Jira Tip of the Week!
If you use Jira filters a lot, you may have noticed that the number of Status values has increased. This is because we have a lot of different teams using Jira, and every group’s unique status values can appear. The best way to limit this is to first filter on Project. For example, if you choose Project = JMP, the Status list will then be restricted to valid statuses in the JMP project. I have a bookmark saved to an initial search page that already has my preferred projects selected, and it saves me a few clicks to start there.

Technical Support
- Duane: This week, TS participated in the “Meet the Experts” rooms for the Online Discovery (as many did) and we had 3-4 actual visitors wanting to talk to us. Additionally, some of us met with Falco and John J to learn more about the upcoming JMP Store enhancements. We continue to work with our customers, providing the support they deserve! Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

Met with JMP Legal and SAS R&D reps to discuss future collaborations. All is still OK to use SAS R&D when needed. Explained that JMP will no longer need to use SAS Release Engineering but needs to still be able to use SAS order processing until My JMP is ready. The final SAS signoff date for 17.2 has passed. Shipping through SAS order processing will begin soon on Sept 20.
- Shannon: Investigated various DNCs and timeouts in the JMP UT streams (JMPTEST-586). Thanks very much to everyone for helping enter and resolve JMP bugs that have been triggering several of these failures or modify tests as needed to permit them to run to completion. Tracked down a crash Julian crash had this week, using Xcode and then going back in JMPRUNNER to see it was introduced last summer (JMP-18391). Also, opened a timing-related Recode workflow recording issue that Julian found (JMP-18396).Busy week for tracking this stuff down, with building JMP and also using JMPRUNNER to figure out when it broke – but like a mystery hunt!
- Nick H: Finished up the work for adding timing information to the JSL Unit Test GUI so now users will have an estimation of how long tests will take to run before running them. The feature can use either local timing data or the timing data from nightly runs. The feature is not live yet but will be shortly, along with a Confluence page. Filed a few bugs and continued testing efforts for Presets along with other verifications.

- Peng: Making changes to Fatigue Model platform based on feedback from Bill Meeker.
Host
- Brian C: We welcome Kristen Slappey and Chris Hesser who both start next Tuesday. Kristen will work on a JMP App Store concept, while Chris will work on data connectors.
- Paul N: Continued Python Integration work:
- Python Scripting index
- Python presentation #2.
- JMP-18416 – Discovered conflict with Python Integration and Python Generate Code(). The generated python code created code with an ‘import jmp_score as jmp’. Which conflicts with the JMP Python built-in jmp package. Solution was to change the generated code so it’s now ‘import jmp_score’. And all function references jmp.some_function() to jmp_score.some_function().
- John Schroedl: Continuing policy work: Added JSL support for testing and dev needs. Created Epic to organize remaining tasks such as specific policies. Starting dev testing in a domain environment with help from Josh LoPresti. Removed code which migrated SAS metadata server info from JMP 17 dirs into 18. Icon work. Visual Studio support.
