Charting New Territories with JMP: Discover, Analyze, and Visualize
Julian Parris, Director, Research and Development, JMP
Step into data exploration with Julian Parris as he explores the capabilities of JMP at the opening plenary of this year’s online conference. In this session, Julian reveals some of his favorite features of JMP, talking us through the best ways to leverage JMP for data preparation, analysis, and visualization. By following along with Julian’s live demonstration, witness firsthand how these features work seamlessly together to turn raw data into insights, and how you can learn to use the tools in JMP to their full potential.
No matter where you are on your JMP journey, this opening plenary promises to be a stimulating voyage of discovery. Come, be a part of this expedition, dive into the depths of JMP, and get a taste of what this versatile software has in store for you.
Learning to Think Like JMP
Ruth Hummel, Senior Manager, Analytical Education, JMP
Examine the mind of JMP and learn how to make the paradigm shift needed to think like a data explorer. Like Copernicus shifting from an earth-centered to a sun-centered understanding of the universe, when you start using JMP, you no longer see a problem-focused mess of a spreadsheet, filled with summary statistics and partial analyses side by side with raw data. Rather, you see a data table that is the center of the analysis universe. The columns become the cast of characters that you can assign to roles in various data stories, all connected back, dynamically, to that data table. New columns are created through formulas, depending on the old columns, often with a simple right-click and with JSL programming language that writes itself. JMP offers a connected, dynamic, progressive analysis experience, with richness and depth at your fingertips. It just takes a little paradigm shift to unlock the magic of JMP.

Angling, Wrangling, and Untangling Data

Preparing data for analysis is said to be 90% of the work in data analytics...and it is especially important to have good tools to make this process efficient. Luckily, JMP includes a suite of features to assist with removing complexities from your data and transforming it to fit your problem, allowing you to focus on innovation, experimentation, and discovery.
Best of all, these tools are enhanced with each release. John Sall is joined by Julian Parris, Andrea Coombs, Michael Hecht, and Michael Goff (just some of the skilled software developers and statisticians at JMP) as they explore ways to angle, wrangle, and untangle YOUR data using JMP.
Building a Culture of Data Literacy: The Power of Analytics Advocacy Moderated by Meg Hermes

As practitioners of applied statistics – regardless of industry, background, or skill level – we all know the power that data holds as a strategic asset. Despite overwhelming consensus around the promise of statistics, however, many organizations are struggling to go beyond buzzwords like “AI” and “digital transformation” to actually build a culture of data literacy at an enterprise scale.
In this session, we hear from analytics advocates from organizations at all stages of analytic maturity. Whether it is a lack of investment in training or leadership that fails to see the value of statistical enablement, we can learn from peers who have been there before – and found ways to overcome some of the organizational barriers standing in the way of data transformation.
Finding the Mother Tree: Designing Experiments in Nature and the Importance of Biodiversity
Suzanne Simard
Professor of Forest Ecology, University of British Columbia
Dr. Suzanne Simard is the leader of The Mother Tree Project, which researches forest renewal practices that protect biodiversity against climate change. Dr. Simard’s work has been published widely, with over 170 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Ecology, and Global Biology. She is also co-author of the book Climate Change and Variability.
In this session, she brings us into the intimate world of trees, exploring the ways in which trees learn and adapt their behaviors, remember the past, demonstrate agency over the future, and cooperate with a sophistication typically ascribed to humans.
