Welcome to the JMP Development Update for September 8, 2023!
Thanks to John Schroedl for sharing the following public service announcement from InsideSAS today:
SAS IT requires all employees to update their Apple devices to 16.6.1 because of a critical vulnerability affecting iMessage. Please see InsideSAS (or the details below) for more details.

JMP 18 EA6 is planned to freeze on 10/03/23, so please continue to update your individual feature pages with the lates info on your work. JMP DevOps is also looking ahead to the JMP 19.0 feature branch. This week I created the Jira issues that my team uses to track various branching-related tasks and we continue to work to track down all the details we’ll need to make the new feature branch happen in early November when we enter our Code Review period.
FYI that the JMP Dev meeting schedule is getting busy, so if you’d like to present this fall, please check out the volunteer list here in Confluence and reserve a date! If you want to present sooner than the next available date, please add an extra date to the table for a Tuesday 11 am session. You can even provide your title and draft description directly in the page. This week, we learned more about some upcoming JMP 18 features. Thanks very much to both our speakers this week:
Tonya Mauldin shared this week’s Beta/crash report, which you can check out in JMP Live: Beta/crash report for the week of 9/8/23 | JMP Live (sas.com)

Finally, thanks very much to Audrey Shull for sharing this Atlassian Tip of the Week!
JMP’s adoption of Confluence has been swift, with nearly all staff having signed into Confluence at some point, and dozens of spaces created to track all the great work going on around our company. To help you navigate, Sara Doudt has created a Confluence Space Directory as a top-level view of the various spaces. Check it out!

Fixed Preset rendering for Virtual Join columns. Working on better Preset handling of many-cols-to-one-role.

Interactive HTML
JMP Live
- Aurora: Bug fixing and confluence updates for 18.0 features. Jira triage. Preparing for upcoming virtual meeting with Regeneron.
Statistics
- John Sall: Work with Joseph on model estimation code for Easy DOE. Principal Components has reduced the number of new methods from four to two: Nonnegative Principal Components and Sparse Components Analysis. These seem the most valuable (JMP-8539). Implemented Column Group support for saving scripts from platforms (Scatterplot Matrix, MDS, PLS, Factor Analysis (JMP-18224). Stepwise new rule choice now called "Whole Effects Respecting Heredity" (JMP-18233). Various fixes from Evan's automated saved scripts that needed column scoping (colon prefix) (JMP-18202).
- Laura C-S: Worked on a simulation to examine the application of Clay’s work (oblique-rotated loadings with penalized SVD) for psychometrics. The results are very interesting as the technique does a great job at identifying the non-zero elements in the loadings even when underlying dimensions are simulated to be substantially correlated. Also, doing an iterated PSVD works well for identifying the correct # of dimensions in the data (using the eigenvalues > 1 rule). All this makes me think PSVD should be in Factor Analysis. I also fixed a bug in SEM so that user-defined time values are now used to plot trajectories in longitudinal models.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Documented various new features in Distribution and Oneway. Reviewed UI strings for CSALT platform and suggested improvements to the DOE team. Solicited invited session proposals for JSM 2024 (deadline to submit a proposal was yesterday).
Stat Testing
- Tonya: Cleaning up Jira tickets and testing short run control charts and capability analysis with phases in CCB.
- Jacob: Testing CSALT Design. Verifying recent fixes and checking calculations of diagnostics. Testing a pending change for the Easy DOE Analyze tab. Updating nightly installer scripts for the new Performance Mac.
Technical Support

- All 2023 Topics for the Engagement Queue:

Development Operations
- Myron: Working on sample data processing (JMPTOOL-505), creating Linux AWS environments for Apache and database (JMPTOOL-868 & JMPTOOL-869), and a UI for JiraBot (JMPTOOL-939).
- Bob: Wrote InsideJMP article announcing 17.2 release options for customers and employees. Installer logic review in preparation for possible major changes. Final check of 17.2 products in SAS process. All is good.
