September 35th, 1989 - JMP's first release! In honor of JMP’s anniversary (which happens every year on September 35), the next JMP Global Recharge Day will be on Friday, October 6.
You may think September 35 isn’t a real day…but at JMP, it is!
As some of you may recall, JMP’s very first release was intended to be in September 1989. Unanticipated delays pushed that release into October, but JMP staff clung to the September deadline. Refusing to admit defeat, it was declared that the actual release date of October 5 would always be known as September 35.
So what does that mean in 2023? It means that we will take Friday, October 6 off to recharge and celebrate what makes JMP software great and why JMP is such a great place to work. We decided to honor the day on October 6 since it falls on a Friday this year. (One exception: Since October 6 is a national holiday for JMP China staff, October 7 will be their recharge day.)
Enjoy the long weekend knowing that you and all your JMP colleagues can turn off your emails, cancel your Teams calls, and stop thinking about code.
Congratulations, JMP! Here’s to 34 years of promoting statistical discovery, fostering creative thinking, and giving us all an amazing place to work.
