Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 25, 2023!
With the signoff of 17.2 last week, many JMP 17.2 deliverables are now available! Updaters are posted to support.sas.com for existing users who installed earlier 17.X versions, installers are available for download in MyJMP for new customers of our JMP first systems, and subscription-based products have been deployed to the JMP and SAS stores. JMP and JMP Pro trial installers and software for internal use are now also up to date. SAS will release full installers for 17.2 products for existing customers in the SAS ship event planned on or around September 19. Work is ongoing to finalize various localized help resources for 17.2.
If you are still working on features that are critical to ship in JMP 18.0, please review the content on the Late features page in Confluence. Jira issue links in the Late Features page will automatically reflect their current status, and I have been using that information to move items into sections on the page indicating completed, ongoing and deferred work. Several items added to Late Features at Feature Freeze a month ago have since been marked Test Ready. There are still some big ticket items in progress and all ongoing feature work should be represented on that page. If you are aware of ongoing work that isn’t on this page, please add it ASAP and use the template to assess its impact.
Please remember that as we move farther past feature freeze, even UI changes that seem relatively minor can impact ongoing JMP 18 testing, writing and translation efforts. For example, late UI changes may prevent doc teams from proceeding with their work or necessitate repeated rounds of screenshot updates. Please be mindful of the downstream impact that even small UI changes can have at this time and seek to minimize such changes or communicate them to impacted teams when they are necessary.
Thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing that JMP QA teams have now signed off on JMP 18 EA5! Customers will be notified of its availability on Monday. Thank you to everyone who was involved in creating this release and all the tasks necessary to get it ready for customers. We only have a few remaining EA releases in this cycle. Please continue to track any feature updates on your individual feature pages as we prepare for EA6 planned to freeze on 10/3/23.
Thanks to members of the product marketing and sales teams for presenting at yesterday’s JMP Dev meeting! If you missed the meeting, you can find the recording here in Sharepoint. The JMP customer workflow assessment tool and survey results generated quite a lot of discussion. Thanks to everyone for participating by asking and answering questions and offering ideas about future directions!
Thanks also to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash cases with crashes selected!

JMP Development Updates
Interactive HTML
- John Powell: Worked on Interactive HTML’s roadmap with Praveena and Dieter. Disabled graphs with Nested Axis and Order By just for segments that don’t support it (JMPHTML-2150). Investigated reason for a disabled local data filter in a customer’s dashboard on JMP Public. It was placed in a selection filter which is not supported by Interactive HTML (JMPHTML-2313). Created stories in support of displaying Graphlets on JMP Live (WEBJMP-7458, JMP-18090, JMP-18091). Created a bug for selection of heatmaps with fill patterns in Selected Darker mode (JMP-18114). Implemented support for fill patterns in heatmaps (JMPHTML-2250).

JMP Live
- Aurora: Working on GDPR compliance. Found and stopped all instances where we wrote user personally identifiable information (PII) to the audit log. Implemented removal of PII from the user record in the database.
- Michael G: Lots of JMP Live bug fixing as features slow down. Starting to look into Discovery talk prep.
Statistics
- Elizabeth: Bug fixing and triage. Making a preliminary list of items for 19 (it feels so early!) as I’m going through the triage list.
- Annie: Fixing bugs related to Short Run Control Charts.
Stat Documentation
- Karen: Started working on the new CSALT DOE chapter.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Verifying Jira tickets for Make Validation Column and DOE. Working on improving speed of some Easy DOE unit tests. Testing CSALT Design. Reading a paper Caleb shared and investigating ALTopt R package to use for oracle designs.
- Mark: Integrated a verification for every factor plot in every case of Easy DOE generated by a 34-run covering array (1,216) in the unit test script for the Data Entry tab of Easy DOE.
- Tonya: Working on beta reporting and testing short run control charts and capability analysis with phases in CCB.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Kaylee: This month the Product Marketing team organized two of the first capability sessions for the Sales Enablement Training Series this year. Peter Polito kicked off the month with a training on Data Access, discussing the fundamentals of this capability and how sales teams can better position JMP when discussing accessing data. Phil Kay followed with a training on Design of Experiments where he showed that DOE is all about understanding how to control the process to consistently meet or exceed customer requirements. Both sessions were interactive and well-received, and provided teams with the right resources and knowledge for future customer interactions. You can find more information (including recordings) on these trainings and others in the training series schedule within the Sales Enablement Library.
Technical Support and JMP Engagement
- Wendy: This week the Support teams participated in user acceptance testing (UAT) for Store 2.1, which went live on Wednesday. Additionally, Dahlia Watkins and I along with Stan Koprowski and Ryan Gilmore are developing updates to the Service Cloud Voice flows and building a list of possible future enhancements. Case volume is steady.
- Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

- Chris B: Still working on getting the JA and ZH help built. Did some Mac testing for the Quick Start effort.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Worked on, completed, practiced and recorded my Workflow Builder presentation for Discovery Summit Americas. Worked through workflow fixes, and found a few new bugs. Answered TS tracks and reported a few issues. Also did a lot of Data Step fixes for JIRA’s too. Downloaded and tested the EA5 on Mac and Windows.

Working with Bryan Boone and Chris Humphrey on ways to detect a problem with ssl certificates. Rewrote my JMP / JMP Live silent installation scripts is powershell. So far servers are installing faster and more reliably. I have started looking in other JMP Live Testers queues to Jira’s in test ready. Trying to get our count down.
- Hui: Investigated a CRP reported by Coral reef researcher Anderson Mayfield when using JMP Live where the data filter comes out as a static image. Thanks to John Powell for help finding the reason! Xcode 14.3 requires macOS Ventura, which doesn’t run on some Mac hardware. We are therefore delaying adoption of Xcode 14.3, and will be conducting a survey to determine what Mac hardware, running what macOS versions, are currently in use. Fixed a long-standing Mac issue with right-click in a modal dialog being reported to portable as a left-click followed by a right-click. Participated in Visual Styling team led by Bryan Fricke.

- John Schroedl: Continuing work on policy support. Discussions related to possible JMP 19 change to sticky title drawing. Reported issue with table update and transform cols. Toolbar and icon updates. More visual design discussions. Discussions related to Microsoft announcement of adding Python support to Excel.
