Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 18, 2023!
Thanks to the many people tasked to sign off various products for our JMP 17.2 releases! Signoffs are now complete for all products. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the creation of this release and worked hard to finalize fixes, verifications, string updates, documentation and help production tasks!
Thanks to Bob Hickey who shared the following details about 17.2 deliveries: updaters for JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical, and JMP Live have been added to the SAS download pages. 17.2 downloads are also available on internal employee download pages and Bob worked with SAS IT to update the SAS Company Portal for PCs to use JMP Pro 17.2. Updated installer validation files are available for JMP, JMP Pro, and JMP Clinical on SAS download pages, and NIST benchmark files have also been updated. Full installers for 17.2 JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical, and JMP Live are available in MyJMP for new customers of our JMP first systems.
Upcoming events will include the release of the JMP 17.2 trial and JMP Pro 17.2 trial on the SAS downloads page, JMP Student through the SAS Store, and JMP Subscription through the JMP Store. JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical, and JMP Live full installers for 17.2 are expected to become available via SAS processes on September 19.
Meanwhile, JMP 18.0 EA5 builds have been created in preparation for sharing the latest round of JMP 18 updates with customers. JMP QA teams have completed testing the Windows installers and are awaiting finalized Mac installers for testing next week. Mia and I appreciate all the work on JMP 18 feature pages this week, as well as the triage of open 18 lists in Jira. It’s extremely helpful to see so many issues resolved and closed out as we look forward to wrapping up the 18 cycle!
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash tracks with crashes selected!

- Annie: Continued working on my Discovery Poster and fixing issues with Capability with phases in Control Chart Builder.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Integrating verifications of the Factor Plots on the Data Entry tab of Easy DOE in the unit test script. Answered questions in JMP Community.
- Tonya: Working on beta reporting and testing capability analysis with phases in CCB.
Technical Support
- Duane: I will be out next week, so any questions or concerns for TS should be directed to Wendy. I’ve included the usual plot with TS case numbers, as well as the topics we are getting for the new Engagement queue. As usual, here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by TS for the last 14 days.

Development Operations
- Jim: Integrated late changes for Python into the Perforce EA branch and rebuilt the bundle. Working with Michael Hecht to get JMP 18 EA5 notarized on mac OS. Updated Python package install scripts on multiple WinOS instances; mac OS is in progress. (JMPTOOL-924) Ordered a new mac OS build machine for JMP 18 since the current hardware will not accept the OS upgrade that Xcode 14.3.1 requires. Verified multiple LEAKS, ASAN, ASSERT and JMPTOOL Jira issues for JMP 18. Reported ASAN and assertion failures resulting from recent Debug JMP 18 unit test runs.
Documentation
- ChrisB: Mostly working on getting the latest JA and ZH help built. Tracked down the "missing" keyboard shortcuts content. Worked on the JSL compatibility (JSLCOMPAT) content.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Verifying JIRA tickets and adding test where needed. Finished up my powerpoint and JMP Journal for my workflow presentation at Discovery – will practice this week and record it next Thursday. Thanks to Lisa Grossman and Audrey Shull for helping my edit my presentation! Answered several TS beta tracks, mostly with workflow builder issues. Ran into an issue with Quick Start files not updated this week, but with build script updates and a change for 18 now in place, the latest install is picking up the correct files.
- Audrey: EA5 Testing - Windows testing is done, still waiting on Mac EA installers. JMP 18 verifications. Updating tester responsibility and component mind maps using Jira’s new Whiteboard feature (both still in progress but feel free to check them out). Planning with Nala/Wenjun for JMP Clinical testing owned by Beijing in JMP 18. Jira admin stuff.
System/Host Testing-Beijing

- Eric (Nai) Wang: (1) Complete testing of new feature “Default for data” (JMPTESTBJ-2537). Add End-to-End tests to check data version and checksum. (2) Testing new feature “Capture table metadata” (JMPTESTBJ-2574). Complete testing of capture metadata during table-post-processing, add End-to-End tests. Working on capture metadata after data refresh/import (WEBJMP-7247). (3) Working on JMP 18 EA 5 testing.
- Da Li: (1) JMP 18.0 EA5 testing, done for windows part, no issue found. (2) TS: 00050205 send back mail asking for more info. (3) Big verification. Data Discovery
- Dan S: Fixes for Save Scripts in English, Platform Presets - support for EMP MSA Analysis (sub-objects), support for presets on platforms in a dashboard or combine-windows, work on Dispatch to preserve axis customizations in platform presets that reference axes by column name (using DispatchKey).
- Dave B: Testing and fixing print, print preview, and save to pdf bugs. There have been multiple issues related to page headers/footers and page scaling. Responded to a couple of tech support e-mails. Cleaned up a journal compatibility warning. Fixed a scatter3d axis label bug.
- Ernest: Adding support for editing (and multi-editing) formulas to Columns Manager. Capturing parsing errors in Workflow Builder.
- Evan: Save Scripts in English fixes. Looking at Column-Robust dispatch cases/fixes. Prototype for Python in Scripting Index.
- Morgan: Doing some logistical work on the future of script editor and have been organizing and triaging some Jiras.
- Andrew: Added support for non-sRGB gradients and color themes and cleaned up color theme journaling.
DOE
- Peng: Rewrote and improved the algorithms to calculate relative profile likelihood and profile likelihood contour. The previous algorithms had been challenged by difficult problems in fatigue data analysis which sometimes the likelihood surface has cliffs. The improved algorithms can handle such cases to some extent. Continue research work Bill.
Host
- Paul Nelson: Added Python icons on windows (EA6). Revising documentation of Python changes for EA5 and writing sample scripts for EA5. Additional checks on stale data table and column references (e.g., a table close with Python still having an object that pointed to the table). Cross platform fixes to ea5_jpip.py script to allow installing packages from within JMP and many other bug fixes.
- Michael H: Fixed issue with example dylib for the Call DLL() JSL function on Mac that was preventing notarization of the installer package. Research event processing issue with right clicks in a modal dialog that appeared in the platform template UI. I have a fix and am evaluating whether it is safe to push it.
- John Schroedl: Continuing work on controlling JMP settings via Group Policy. Thanks to Ernest for good discussion on the policy/preference relationship. Addressed issues with Quick Start file locations and build scripts. Helped Aaron investigate mutex issue.
Interactive HTML
JMP Live
- Aurora: Finished all server-side folder level access functionality. Only remaining work is taking a look at performance, and fixing any bugs that testers might find. Just started GDPR compliance feature. My starting point is refraining from writing PII (personally identifiable information) to the audit log from now on.
- Michael Goff: Merged the Folder Level Permissions branch into main. JMP Live 18.0 now operates on permissions for each folder in a space hierarchy. Upgraded our Apollo Graphql server from 3 to 4 due to expiring security support. Various other bug fixes.
Product Management
- Bryan F: Worked on developing user stories for separating JMP styling from the display tree, continued to refine wireframes for report generation in a Web environment, and contributed to some design discussions for JMP Live and HTML5.
